Need firing order diagram 1948 case tractor 4cly

Next time you pull all the plug wires off, make sure you diagram out where they go. It helps to mark the wires with a bit of tape with the number written on it.

Even easier is to pull and fix only one plug wire at a time.

If you get the wires off by a single count of one on the distributor, when you go to start the engine it will sound as if the entire world is ending.

From the timing belt to the transmission the fireing orders are 1234 One and three fired the same time 2 and 4 fire the same time. Pull all the plugs for the spark plug on them and lay them across the top of the motor with plugs in them you can see which ones fire at what time. The spark plugs need to be touching a grounded part of the engine to fire. This also will help you find out if you have bad wires.

After it dies check for fire if no fire replace the COIL

look for a burn hole in the rotor under the cap

Pull the number 1 spark plug out, Turn the engine until you feel pressure on the cylinder with your finger over the hole in the head. Then get the timing mark on the crank pulley to line up with the split in the case. Pull your distributor cap off and look which way the rotor button is pointing, that will be the number one spark plug wire location. The dis. turns clockwise and run the wires 1 - 3 - 4 - 2. around the cap from that contact location.

firing order 1 3 4 2 counter clockwise on distributor the timing marks are located on the crankshaft sprocket and cam shaft sprocket disconnect the negative battery terminal prier to any work preformed and pull the spark plugs for an easier turn align the dowel pin on cam shaft with the dowel pin facing straight up the crank shaft pin should also aim straight up. turn the crankshaft twice to ensure they stay aligned

The firing order is ( 1 - 3 - 7 - 2 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 8 )

The distributor rotor turns COUNTERCLOCKWISE

The marked # 1 position on the distrubutor cap faces to the REAR and slightly towards the drivers side

The engine cylinders / spark plug locations are numbered :

If someone has altered the disstributer, pull #1 plug, put finger over hole, turn engine over until compression on that cyl, line up timing marks (ball park only) and rotor will be pointing at the correct terminal for #1 cylinder plug wire connection, in the cap.

the firing order if it is a v-8 is :18436572
1357 on driver side bank 2468 on pass side
generally number 1 is the first position to the left of where the wires for the dist go into the cap..if that is not the case you can pull out the #1 plug and hold your finger over the plug hole have someone just click the starter when you feel compression pull off the dist cap and see where the rotor points that will be #1 (make sure you remove coil power wire at the cap before doing this so it wont start on you)
or you can pull #1 plug and stick a screwdriver in the hole and turn engine by hand untill piston is all the way up then pull off dist cap and see where rotor is pointing ,it will either be correct or 180 degrees out.....hope this helps

If you pulled all the wires at once, you will need to go to a parts store and see if they can show you a diagram on how to reset the wires. Do not unhook the wires from the spark plugs at this point.
