Whenever I have a customer tell me their printer seems to be running slower, 9 times out of 10 its what they're trying to print...not the printer. Heres a couple of things to do and ask yourself. First I'd do a test print from the printer itself. Does it kick it right out? Then go to the printer folder on the computer, right click on the printer, go to properties..click print test page. Does that come out pretty quick? Okay if they seem relatively fast then its beginning to look like something other than the printer. Try printing the job that seems to run slow. Then try printing from a different program. Is there a difference in speed? The job that prints slow may have graphics or require more memory then it use to. Perhaps you changed the graphics content on the page and the printerr is taking more time to process it. Adding more memory to the printer can help that.

Did you make any software change to the printer about the same time you noticed the slow down?
Have you changed the font color in the computer to something other than black for that particular print job? I've seen monochrome (black and white) laser printers slow down because its trying to convert the job to say violet or some other color. Its a black text printer and apparently printing color confuses it ..lol My bet is..if you really sit down and think back...something changed in the content of what your printing thats taking it longer to process it. Hope this helps!

Hi our dell 1720 printer has been printing hundereds of pages of nothing but gibberish since saturday. At first I thought it was trying to print a file someone deleted before cancelling from the que but...

I've found when this happens to our printers after we reload the driver the printer prints fine. You may not even need the disk. You can go to the Advanced tab in the printer properties and the driver should still be loaded on the PC's hard drive.

Problem with Dell 1720 printer

Hello

You have to check couple things in this case.

Ensure that the printer cover is closed.
  1. Remove the toner cartridge.
  2. Firmly shake it side-to-side and front-to-back several times to redistribute the toner.
  3. Reinsert the toner cartridge, and continue printing.
Repeat this procedure multiple times until the print remains faded. When the print remains faded, replace the toner cartridge.

How do I print duplex on the Dell 1720?

You need to visit the Printer in Control Panel - Printers and double click on the 1720 icon and go through the setup tabs and select Duplex Printing. If you only want to print duplex occasionally you can select duplex from the print options presented when you print a document by selecting the Preferences or Setup button when the Print Dailoig box appears.

I have a Dell 946 printer that is a couple of years old. It has started printing crooked on the pages. I have done the alighnment and that did not fix the problem. Can you help?

probably no much you can do the correct the problem because The problems that users encounter while using a Dell printer
varies with the model. However the common problems all Dell printer models suffer from are their slow speed and faulty paper feed mechanism. Quality of prints varies from one model to another, but most of the models do not produce prints having very fine qualities. A Dell printer is particularly notorious for its poor and faulty feed mechanism. They tend to cripple the papers or take in large number of papers at a time and print parts of documents on each page. They keep on generating messages indicating lack of paper, no matter the paper is being supplied or not. Such a problem makes the printer absolutely useless

Printer prints first page with strange nonsensical characters

I would move the printer to another computer. See if the problem follows. I have seen the issue a few times with issues in normal.dot but also in other office applications.

Problem I'm fighting with on my 1720 is its printing extra pages between pages. basically print a 5 page document and get an 8/9 page final with the extra blank pages. Think its a user error but could be machine related. going to try it on another PC and see what happens.
