First disconnect the battery. Then unhook the wires from the starter should be one or two wires. Remove the bolts from the starter two or three bolts.

Shawn , You need local help with ascertaining the function of the starter solenoid. I get the impression you have something wrongly wired in this area. Different systems have the solenoid operating a different way. Some have the operating wire from the start button grounded through the solenoid body, others use a wire to ground the sol. I think you have some thing going to ground on start up which is, luckily for you, blowing the fuses rather than torching the engine.
Get some help and a test meter to check out the wiring. It maybe as simple as a wrong connection and you can't see the wood for the trees?

Could be several things. Starter sol hooked up wrong, key switch bad... well ok thats pretty much it, check those things then see what happens.

The way them starters work is it is either engaged by a silonoid or a reverse plastic gear so when the starter is energized the gear comes up so. In other words u can buy a new starter or take it to a shop and have them rebuild it. If it is the plastic gear kind u can geta new gear for it

you need to check the actual alternator. The starter has nothing to do with the charging system so replacing that wouldn't solve a charging issue. Also make sure the battery is good

bypass the safety switches one at a time to test them

Its basically the same....best bet is to just buy the new pull start mechanism...they are pretty cheap, and they go bad on those units all the time.
