Sounds like the switching mechanism that creates the link is stuck. When you answer your phone, you allow the voltage to complete it's path and you either answer the phone or you hear dial tone. If that switch is stuck closed, even though you hung up the phone, the connection is still alive. When you try to pick the phone back up later, the connection is still closed, but your phone has already passed it's "if you would like to make a call" message and you hear no dial tone. Unplugging the power to the phone resets this switch and all is good again.....that is until it gets stuck again. I have seen this problem with phones after a near lightening strike at the house. Sounds like you need to get a new phone as I don't think this is repairable.
SOURCE: we can't get dial tone on any of our 3 uniden phones
The base station must be plugged into a live jack. Take a known good telephone and plug into the wall jack. If that checks good use the same cord to hook up the base. If the base still doesn't work, pull the cord loose and look into the jack hole on the base and see if the wire connections are out of alignment. If they appear straight then the base is in need of going to a repair shop.

Check the line comming into the main handset base. Make sure it is not cracked or your cat hasn't chewed through it.LOL This sounds like the most likley solution. Try hooking the main phone line to an ordinary old fashioned touch tone phone with a wired handset and if that is working then the problem lies in the main base of your new phone. It could be as simple as reprogramming the base.

it is not plugged into the phone jack on your wall? It is searching for dial tone and it isn't getting any, maybe the line cord too?
SOURCE: UNIDEN EXP7900 NEW BATTERY CHARGED,
I have a Uniden DECT 6.0, 2 handset phone. I charged the batteries twice for at least 15 hours. I usually unplug the base at night and plug it back in in the morning. Both the phones lose their charge overnight. My old Uniden phone never lost its charge. Is this because the new batteries are smaller than the old ones? Are the batteries bad? I bought this phone from Ebay who said this was a brand new phone, box never opened. Thank you.
