Trouble connecting netgear wireless router to rca modem DCM425

I am currently using Comcast broadband thru a rca modem DCM425. Son bought an Acer Aspire laptop today and a netgear wireless-g router. I followed directions hooking up router and when check is done it says it cannot find router. Modem was hooked to PC by usb, but no usb port on router so I have ethernet cable hooked to router and back of PC and also USB hooked to modem and back of pc withthe "yellow" ether net cord plugged into the router and then into the modem...still no luck. Is this something I need to contact Comcast for and obtain their wireless router or did I connect wrong?

First try connection the Yellow ethernet cable from the rca modem to your computer's network connection. If you get a connection this way, then your modem will work with a ethernet cable. If not, then call Comcast for help. The modem ethernet out to computer port must be connected to the wan line of the router. Then you can connect an ethernet cable from your computer network connection to one of the 4 ports of the router. For wireless connections you must set up the router and wireless adaptor with the same settings to connect. Follow the routers directions.

YOU CAN ONLY CONNECT EACH DEVISE WITH EITHER USB OR ETHERNET BUT NOT BOTH.

I am having trouble connecting my RCA dcm425 with a dynex 10base-t ethernet hub to two devices at once. Comcast said I should be able to connect two devices at once but I can only connect one at a time. ...

The RCA DCM425 is a cable modem. You need an Ethernet router to connect two devices to the wide area network provided by the modem. A router assigns I.P. (internet protocol) addresses. Your Dynex Ethernet hub is a switch which will enable you to share files between computers. It doesn't support directing traffic to and from the internet.

I wish that I had better news for you. You can get a router from many sources.

I see that people are asking about driverss for the RCA dcm425 cable modem. I just bought a new computer, and I connected it to the my old dcm425 modem through a router and it works just fine. I didn't...

The trick about all this is that the software does not configure the computer, but the modem.
So once it has been configured through a computer then plugged to a router, any computer plugged to the said router will have access to the Internet.

The whole process of installing/configuring will happen if you replace the old modem and/or plug a new computer directly to the modem.

How can i connect my RCA by Thomson digital broadband cable modem it is DCM425 to a belkin router to make a wifi connection?

Plug the Ethernet cable into the yellow jack on the wireless router. Plug a wireless receiver (like Netgear or Belkin) into a USB port on the computer. The Belkin will come with instructions, software and a default password (on the bottom or the router). Install the CD drivers and follow the prompts.

Can i hook up 2 computers to the rca dcm425 without a wireless router

RCA DCM425 digital cable modems only have one Ethernet cable located in the back of the device. In order to have two computers connected at the same time you will need to have router. The router will connect to the Ethernet port on the back of the RCA modem and then you can have up to 4 computers connected directly to the router using Ethernet cables. If any of your computers are wifi compatible they will also be able to get online by using the wifi from the router.

I have the RCA DCM425C cable modem and also Vonage phone service. So my modem ethernet connects to my Vonage internet. I would like to go wireless in my house. How would I do this?

You would connect from the output of the Vonage modem to the wireless router and then from the wireless router you can connect Ethernet to your desktop if you have one and then anything else can run off of the wireless.

or

get a wireless router / cable modem combo provided by companies such as netgear then you would connect the Vonage to the router through one of the available Ethernet ports and any other Ethernet connections to the router as well and anything else wireless would work wireless.

How do I connect this router?

You will need at least two ethernet cables like the one that is currently connecting yur PC to your Comcast Modem. Use one cable to connect between your pc and any of the ports labled 1, 2, 3, or 4 on the router. Another ethernet cable should be connected between the modem and the port labeled WAN on the router. Then (if you havent already), turn off the power to all three, the modem, the router, and the pc. then, turn on the power to just the modem and wait until the lights on the front of it stablize (usually about 60 to 120 seconds). Then turn on the router and wait another 60 seconds. Finally, boot up the computer. You should be able to connect to the internet. the next step will be to set up the wireless part of the router.
