YES IT MAY BE THE CAPACITOR . IT COULD ALSO BE THE WIREING IN THE MTR, THE PUNP ITSELF.

SOURCE: Craftsman 25 gallon compressor wont cut off

The pressure switch has snap action contacts that are opened by a diaphragm pushing against a spring mechanism. Unplug the compressor and remove the cover to the switch and look for the contacts. Make sure that they are not welded together from use. Move the on/off lever to see if they open and close. You may have welded contacts or broken mechanism within switch. A factory replacement is expensive, however if you are a tinker-er you can use a lower price generic pressure switch available on ebay. Switches are sold by pressure range, you need a 120#. Fittings may need tweaking. Enjoy

SOURCE: air compressor not working

If your motor is running and not the pump, the malfunction is either in the pump or the coupling between the motor and the pump.

Some of these compressors are manufactured so cheap now that there can be just a set screw that is loose and the motor shaft is spinning free inside of the crankshaft.

If you drain the oil out of the pump and take off the pump crankcase cover, you should be able to see the problem.

SOURCE: I have a Craftsman 3 gallon 1HP air compressor

Sounds like the compressor has failed -- probably the valve -- tear down and rebuild is probably the solution, or replace compressor, or just buy another unit. My nature would be to tear it down and see what's going on.

I have a Craftsman 2-gallon 1.5 HP air compressor, Model No 921.152100. The last time I used it it worked great. I just tried to use it and it doesn't work. I checked the connections and found the pressure...

Is there pressure in the tank already? The reset is usually on the end of the motor.
The pressure switch, a diaphragm pushes against an adjustable tension spring. Less spring tension cuts the motor out at lower pressure, more tension at a higher pressure. Has this adjustment been used? It may have a second adjustment, either nut or screw, that adjusts the pressure differential between cut in and cut out.

I have a 3 gal/ 1HP Craftsman air comp. When I plug it in and turn it on, I get the sound of current getting to the motor but it does not start. A failed Starting capacitor?

Could be, do you have a capacitor checker? It sounds like you have a compressor locked up. Do you have oil in the compressor? If the compressor is new I would take it back and see if it is still under warranty. before I did any thing to it.....

I just bought a used Craftsman air compressor at a garage sale...100PSI, twin cylinder, 1HP motor. Model # 106.154440. Runs fine, but wondered how to check the oil level in the compressor case and if it...

I have a Sears 106.154581 most likely like yours. You will find a small plug (fill hole) and slightly larger plug on side of pump close to bottom (drain hole). Fill compressor with compressor oil to top thread of fill hole. Oil should look rather clear with very little odor. Compressor oil is available at Lowes for about $3. Good luck

Motor runs pressure stays around 25psi

if they are oilless compressors then the rings are worn

Have 12 gallon / 1HP Craftsman compressor, accidentally ran it while it was low on oil....about half way low. It shut itself off. Then, I added oil and it started up. But now it builds pressure VERY slowly...

Not the motor, but probably the compressor shot. Heat from friction (due to running without oil) probably scored the cylinder walls, which allows air to escape past the piston and rings, making the compressor VERY inefficient. Some compressors have replaceable cylinders... Not sure if the very small ones do or not.

Craftsman air compressor will not start

I am assuming that there is no air in the machine now. Otherwise it will not turn on if there is enough pressure in the tank.

If it will not start at all, the on/off switch on the pressure switch may not be turned on or it is defective.

You can also check the reset switch on the motor (red button).

These are very simple setups and it shouldn't take too long to troubleshoot.
