You will need the service manual if you are planning to attempt this yourself. For one thing, needle height and timing are interrelated; the same symptoms that indicate that your machine is off its timing can be caused by an improper needle bar height, and the manual will give you the specifications for both.
Go to Sewing Parts Online. I tried there and your machine was not listed, but if you send them an email, they will be happy to order it for you.
