Do a google search on "hard reset" or "factory reset" for your tablet.
Call customer assistance and they'll talk you through it. If it's a cheap off-brand like RCA or Polaroid or something, then even if you get it workin you'll likely be going through the same process in a month or so.

Most tablets have a icon you can click on like Google store for Android. If poloroid has locked this tablet I would look at ways to root it.

Only after this screen is shown, press and hold the power and volume up buttons together for 3 seconds. Now, use the volume buttons to navigate and the power button to select items. Navigate to and select "wipe data/factory reset".

I think it would help others get a better understanding if you posted what brand tablet you're using. Motorola Zoom, Apple iPad 2, Asus Transformer Prime, etc. It could be a known issue with the particular brand.
