SOURCE: printer says printing document but will not print. anything
I had this same problem, and after 45 minutes with
HP support, eventually managed to get it to print by turning the
printer of and then holding down both arrow keys (left and right) at
the same time while turning the printer back on. I held down the arrow
keys until it said "Language: English" and then clicked through the
prompts. It then restarted, and all was well again.
Other places mention doing this with the OK and Cancel keys, but that didn't do it for me - the arrow keys did.

Are you low on ink? If so this could be the problem. Your cartridge may have dried out if left without regular use.

If you edit the photos and save them at a lower resolution, then put the lower resolution photos into the document, that's the quick fix.
A program such as photoshop or corel photopaint are able to do this quite easily. In corel for instance you simply resave the photo as a jpeg, and it'll ask the resolution/quality etc. and you can reduce the resolution usually quite a bit before you lose any quality in the printout.
The other solution is to upgrade the printer's memory.
Inkjet printers usually will not have this issue because they don't need to form the complete page in memory before printing like a laser printer does. An injet's image is formed line by line in the print driver and then streamed to the printer, so the printer's ram doesn't have to take the whole page at once.
