I had come home about a week ago and pushed the power button from my
remote but my tv did not respond. So I just went to the front panel and
pushed power but once the tv turned on, the volume was on full blast! I
used the front panel volume decrease to get the volume down, but when I
stopped pushing the button, the tv increased its volume to full blast
again by itself! Naturally I just turned the tv off for a few moments. I
tried the remote again, no response again, so I used the panel power
button. The tv volume was still full blast when it turned on but after I
decreased the volume it stayed this time. The picture is and has been
perfectly fine and the tv was working fine. The next day the problem
started all over and now once we turned it off from frustration of
having to manually use the panel to change channels, it now will not
turn on at all. I have changed batteries from my remote, reprogrammed my
remote, pushed system reset several times, unplugged it for a while,
bought a new surge charge, and even held the menu and device panel
buttons for 10 sec and tried to turn the t.v. on again! What other
options do I have or what may be the issue at hand and possible parts
that may need to be replaced?? Thanks!!
1.- Turn off your TV 2.- On the remote control, set the VCR/TV slide switch to TV position. 3.- While holding in SP/EP button, press the code button listed below that corresponds to the brand of your TV 4.- Press TV POWER on the remote control. Once your TV has turned on, your remote is set up to operate your brand
TV.

Use the satellite receiver remote control to adjust the volume first. The receiver itself offers volume control and you probably have that turned down. Then you are trying to raise it with the volume control on the TV. This is raising the TV volume, but there isn't much sound there in the first place. Use the receiver remote, and you will probably see a volume bar. At some point it might say something like "best stereo" or a star might appear. If that happens leave the volume set there, otherwise just raise it all the way. Then control the volume with the TV remote, or program the DirecTV remote for your brand of TV, and the volume button should control the TV then.
I had the same problem, you'll probably find that that particular button will push further into the set then the others, this is due to the a weakening of a cheesy metal guide which directs the projection off the back of the button into the corresponding microswitch. This metal guide will bend and will push against the switch. My solution, (and it ain't pretty) was to unplug the set, remove the button( I used a dremel cutting bit), locate the guide,a small metal plate with a hole in it. Bend the plate toward the front of the set then tape over the hole. I haven't had the problem since. You WILL have to use your remote for further functionality of the volume, However all of the buttons seem to be inherantly poorly designed and will weaken over time, AVOID USING THEM!
the answer to your ques is. go buy a universal remote control. since your tv is made by thomson
electric. (ge@rca)you can prob get a rca universal remote at wallmart or walgreens. you won't need to reprogram. it everytime you change baterys. after you get set to turn on and off just hit tv/vcr button on remote or select channel 91 or 92 (on some models that is your video for rca/ge) good luck doctordave
probably you could try this push down the channel up and down button together.you menu will pop up then you can change your setting with the volume up and down button good luck.any further assistance contact me at email [email protected] or on the fixya.com expert website.
