Check for a broken drive belt for the drum
the clunk may have been from the belt as it broke and hit the cabinet

SOURCE: dryer

Hi Kyboy49,

The drum rolls on idler wheels. Sometimes the lint and stuff clings to these wheels and causes the cluncking noise you speak of. You will have to pop up the lid and see if you can reach the wheels for cleaning. You may have to pull the front panel off.

SOURCE: clunking noise

The clunking noise may be a broken weld on the drum.  Every time it turns and passes through the guide wheel supports, it makes a thunk thunk noise.  You will need to have a qualified LG technician diagnose the problem correctly but that's what it sounds like.

SOURCE: dryer making loud clunking noise

Make sure the drum is not catching the back panel, and that the fan is not loose on the motor.

SOURCE: tumble dryer makes whine noise but doesnt spin

Sounds like the drive belt has gone, and the noise you can hear is the motor going round.
The red glow you can see, will be the heater element glowing..
To check the belt, remove top cover, and you will be able to see if the belt is on or not, if you can see it round the drum, try to lift it up, if it has not broken, then you will not be able to remove it, and that means the motor or drum could be siezed, try to turn the drum by hand, it should be fairly stiff to turn, but not that stiff that you cannot turn it at all.

Please rate my fixya solution.
Thanks.

My dryer is not spinning. It turns on but does not spin. I heard a loud clunk when I took out clothes and spun the drum clockwise.

sounds like a broken drive belt.. pretty easy replacement. check youtube.com, repairclinic.com, or appliancepartspros.com for videos to show you how.

Clunking banging noise

It may be something stuck in the drum, ie a bra wire, which would have extra weight on it whilst the clothes are wet. If this is the case, it will need looking at sooner, rather than later, as it will just be causing further internal damage

Dryer is making loud noise when drying. Listen to video. Help

I heard the sound and that is not an unbalanced drum. I think you have either bearings going out or your drum belt needs to be replaced. When that wears down it causes the drum not to run true giving it that metal on metal sound.

My lint filter assembly is broken. I was drying a small load of clothes and the lint filter got tangled with clothes and came out into the drum. The dryer was stopped when I found this situation. ...

The drum should turn either direction. Part of the filter must be catching in the belt at the drum or motor when turning clockwise. CCW would push it out away from the belt so no pinching.

Kenmore oasis washer

top loaders use the same motor for wash pump and spin to spin the clothes the motor direction is reversed and a solenoid releases the drum brake allowing the drum to rotate this is governed by a set of clutch shoes in the pulley if these are worn then the machine wont spin at full speed but ol on the display indicates overload so check the solenoid is releasing the drum usually heard as a loud clunk on spin start
