On my tv screen I have a vertical white line with some colours
It is about an inch thick and starts just before the middle of the screen. I have a 42"LG. It started as a black flickering line that came and went but now its a permanent white line.

Line faults & possible causes to LCD screen are given with illustrations. You can get an idea about the fault to an extent. Line faults to all LCD screen are similar, irrespective of its brand and screen size.
do the proper isolation proceedure and try unhooking the Su from the SC board to see if you then get a normal picture all the way across the bottom half of the screen? I am assuming the Vertcal extends extends all the way from top to the bottom of the screen?
Hi I have a LG RZ42px11 there are 6 vertical thick black lines running down the middle off the screen, when cold the TV seems OK but if it has been on for around 10mins or on standby the lines stay on screen.
This sounds like one of the driver boards at the bottom or top of the screen has an intermittent fault. The set will have to be taken in to a service centre.
It sounds like a vertical deflection problem. You mentioned you had a white HORIZONTAL LINE in the middle of the screen. If this line runs from left to right across the screen it's in Verticla deflection. If it runs from top to bottom, it's in Horizontal deflection. I am assuming the problem is a Vertical deflaecion problem. The repairs necessary are most likley to replace the vertical capacitors or the verticla deflection chip.
Good Luck
