I work with these printers a lot and do not recommend refilling as it will cause the "Ink Sysytem Failure" or "General Printer error" codes to pop up. I do recommend the aftermarket ink cartridges. Below is a link to a ferw I buy. I do not sell these, and do not get any comission of the sales. Just sharing my source.

Refill cartrige and printer says replace cartrige

A lot of printer manufactures place a small chip on the ink cartridge. Combined with the printer software it knows you re-filled the cartridge. This forces you to buy new ink. A work around that works with some printers. Keep you're old ink cartridges. Replace with new and when it empties replace with you're re-filled ink cartridge. Store you're old re-filled cartridges in a dry cool place when not in use. With HP printers users keep three cartridges.

Good luck.

Color cartrige doesnt work. cartrige is in but says it's empty.I have the 5600-6600 series.I have a #1 cartrige in.is it wrong?

You should take it back and exchange it or read on below.
Most modern cartridges have an ink level chip built on to them.
Should the level drop below 25% then most of these chips lock up and will not reset.
Re-filling them will have no effect
If you are lucky you should be able to find either a chip resetter around on the internet
OR
Even better empty cartridges that never need to be reset.
The second option is my preference
I realise these are not for your specific printer but there are others listed on both those sites as well

Reset the cartrige after fill up

I'm not sure about Lexmark but some printer cartridges (Cannon) can't be refilled because the printers still think they are empty. You can buy a little gismo on ebay to reset the cartridges after you refill them. Good luck.

Cant get re-filled ink cartrige to work

It sounds like whoever refilled the ink cartridges did not reset the counter in the cartridge, so it thinks that it is still empty.

Hi! joeandtam
Did you run a cleaning cycle on your cartriges? Check your tool options from your Programs/HP page.
