My last oil change was to a synthetic blend. Is going back to a regular premium oil going to have any adverse effect? My car is a 2005 PT Cruiser. />
First of all let me tell you that it is a myth that you can not go back and forth between conventional oil and synthetic or in your case synthetic blend. They all mix very well together but why on earth would you not use a full synthetic in every thing? It will keep your motor so much cleaner, and last way longer, new or 150.000 miles used, does not matter. They refine the synthetic oils way way longer to get the impurities out. Other big thing [ OILTEMPERATURE AND WEAR COLD START UPS ] Exceeds and blows conventional out of the water. plus a real full synthetic you can run a lot longer just spin a new good grade filter on or change it. Me my self Ill run Walmart full synthetic in my grand prix and ROYAL PURPLE in my 2013 mustang. I think there all full synthetics are good compared to the old dirty sludge and if all the new manufactures are recommending it now its good. Do you have any motor rebuilders or trucking builders close to you? Just go look at the oil pans to compare the too . I guarantee you will be sold that day and never run conventional again.... PERIOD.
Nothing much.use
synthetic oil save environment
Some guy talked my GF into running synthetic in her Eclipse. First time it ever had oil level on dip stick go down between changes. Went back to conventional oil and oil consumption stopped. I run all my vehicles to well above 200,000, even 300,000 miles and have not trouble with regular oil, like Valvoline. I'm not a believer in the higher priced "Higher Mileage" motor oils either. Just make sure it's a good oil. BTW, I've been driving 50 years and racing dirt Late Model cars that long. Love Valvoline, but it's not the end all - be all. Many great oils out there without fancy names. Havoline, Conoco, Shell, Phillips, etc. (Cheaper can be just as good)
You will have to change the conventional oil more often to get comparable anti-wear qualities of the synthetic. I run synthetic in all of my vehicles accept my vintage motorcycle (wet clutch, synthetic will cause it to slip). The cost benefit is much better. They also make high mileage synthetics which will help with oil consumption as well as seal deterioration. I use Mobile 1 high mileage in some of my vehicles and found it to be excellent, literally zero consumption between changes on my RSX and I rev its engine to the moon frequently.
Ok.. synthetic oils and synthetic blends have chemicals that older vehicles/engines were NEVER designed to tolerate. Some older vehicles will start leaking oil very quickly..the gaskets/O-rings,seals were not "spec'ed" out to tolerate those chemicals. Yes, I have seen vehicles with high mileage have adverse effects with full synthetic!
You may use either provided they meet the mfr's minimum SAE/API viscosity and approval rating for the weather conditions and usage type. Cheaper oils generally require more frequent oil changes. Always replace the filter and drain plug washer, if equipped with one.
The molecules in synthetic motor oil are much smaller than in conventional oil. This means that synthetic oil can creep deeper into the engine and provide more protection. The down side with synthetic oil ( especially on higher mileage engines ) is you may develop oil leaks because of the oil being able to get to places conventional oil will not reach
I agree.I use mobile 1 synthetic and some lucas .I have over 350,000 miles on my pickup and never had any kind of problem. I have just recently noticed a few drips from a small leak tho
Well, coventional oil tends to get thick and help main seals keep the fluid in. Switching to synthetic will clean up the thick oil and then weak main seals will leak.
