Also be sure you're using the right type of needle for sewing with knits you need a ballpoint, sewing woven fabrics you need a sharp. Happy sewing good luck and God bless Angela

The issue could be that the needle is not fully inserted. This will cause a difference in the timing of the thread going around the race which holds the bobbin.

Other causes could be wrong size needle. Needle put in the wrong way (i.e back the front). blunt or bent needle. Skipped stitches- use new needle. Make sure it is the right size for the type of material you are sewing i.e denim use size 14-16, poplin/calico size 12, silk/chiffon size 10. Also check that your thread is good quality. Is it poor quality cotton that breaks easily when to pull it?

Do you have the bobbin in the correct way?

Check the book to see if you have threaded the top thread correctly, especially make sure that you have the thread in the tension disks and that you have it correct in the check spring (looks like a wire hook around tension disk)

If you have checked all this and still have problems - Have you broken a needle when sewing something bulky? The timing may be out and that means you need to take it to a sewing machine mechanic. Hope this helps.

My machine is skipping stiches it seems its not picking up from the bobbin

Install a brand new needle and confirm it is inserted with the flat side facing the proper direction.. A bent, damaged needle will sometimes cause skipped stitches or even needle strikes inside the machine. A new needle is the least expensive cure for a lot of sewing machine problems. The needle should be changed about every 8 hours of sewing or at least when starting a new project.

Remove the top thread. ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning. Verify the thread path is correct.

Sometimes, skipped stitches will occur if the needle, thread, and fabric are incompatible. Be sure to use the correct needle for your project. Use a good quality thread--AVOID old or bargain bin thread!

If the machine continues to skip stitches, then it may be out of time. Search for sewing machine timing or take it for service.

Skipped stitches

Skipped stitches could result from several different origins. First, easiest, and least expensive thing, try a brand new needle. However, if it is failing to pick up the bobbin thread all together, then it is probably out of time (search for sewing machine timing or take it for service).

Here are other suggestions for intermittent skipping:

Wont pickup bobbin thread when sewing.

Make sure you are using a brand new needle. Bent/damaged/dull needles frequently will fail to pick up the thread.

If it continues to skip stitches, it most likely has a needle/hook timing issue--the needle arrives at the bobbin at the wrong time to intercept the bobbin thread.

There are web sites and videos available that discuss sewing machine timing, or you can take it for service.

Skip stiches

Changing the needle may be helpful. A bent/damaged needle will tend to not pick up the bobbin thread properly.

Try a different type of thread--avoid old or bargain bin threads.

Could also be an incompatibility of the needle, thread, and fabric.

If it still skips stitches, then it may have a needle/hook timing issue that would require service.

I have a XL2600I and the top thread is only picking up the bottom thread about every inch. What can I do or replace?

try a new needle--use the right needle for the fabric being sewed

rethread the machine, using every thread guide

take the bobbin out of the bobbin case and reinsert it, making it sure it counter clock wise in the bobbin case

also could be a timing problem

Skipping stitches?

skipped stitches is usually an indication of timing of hook and needle being off. The needle is not always picking up the bobbin thread. Suggest that it be serviced by an authorized Husqvarna Viking Dealer. You can find the nearest dealer by click on the "Dealer" link at http://www.husqvarnaviking.com

I think the timing is out on my janome 2039 sewing machine

It is very possible that the timing is off, which often occurs with broken needles. A common symptom is that the needle will not pick up the bobbin thread. Missed stitches aren't necessarily timing related--be sure to install brand needles often and use the correct needle for the fabric & thread you are using. Using the wrong needle will often cause skipped stitches.
