Emachine 3240. Fans run for a few seconds when machine is turned on & then pc cuts out without booting. I can see a small green light on the MB which stays illuminated after machine cuts out.
I would suggest try to swap the power supply out with another known good power supply.
I've seen where even though the light on the motherboard is lit, it is not getting enough power to start the machine up, especially if you have a higher end video card connected to it.

Remove the RAM and install it again and restart.....it will work if still not work then change remove RAM again and start your machine..it will give beep sound...if it will not give beep sound then understand your machine's mother board is faulty......
Remove hard drive, find out make and model of hard drive. Go to hard drive manufacturer's website and download testing software (if you have another computer with internet access). Should be a bootable ISO file. Burn the boot cd and run it on the host computer after reinstalling the hard drive. Sounds like a bad hard drive in my opinion.
May be there is a problem in the windows, but suppose it is not booting at all.
First Check once more your boot options from bios menu Second If it still the same thing, extract your battery out of your laptop for 12 min, then try to power up your laptop pluging in your power cable(don't use your battery) Third If it still not working, there must be a problem in your cooling fan, so check it, also check your motherboard & your graphics card (Most of this problems happens due to a problem in the computer cooling system in motherboard & graphics card)
Turn off power, unplug, hold power button for 30 seconds, take out memory, or if you have more than one stick only take all but 1, plug the power back in and start the computer. If a screen pops up that bios has changed press F2 to continue once computer is completly loaded click start, shut sown, unplug power cord again, hold power button 30 seconds, insert other memory and restart
Bottom line: Either your power supply or (hopefully not) the mother board has gone bad.
Replace power supply (remove old one), take to local independent computer shop, ask them for new unit. Should be around $50.00. - no more. After reinstall, if still no fans, boot, etc. Replace motherboard or buy a new machine. MB's installed probably will run you around $250.00-ish.
Good luck.
