How can i get my transmission to shift correctly ? Should i put the old pcm back in my car ? Reset pcm thru dealership ?

After replacing my PCM on my 2004 3.4 liter chevy impala I drove the car for 1 day and now I'm getting a trouble code of 1810 . Why is the newer PCM giving this trouble code and my old PCM never did ? Now my car is stalling out at lights and stop signs . Now the car seems be be stuck in 2nd gear as I'm accelerating over 45 mph . />

My first question is: Why did you change your PCM in the first place, I would try the old one back in as soon as possible. And the old PCM may have to go thru a learning cycle before it works correctly.

I had a mechanic scan my car and he said my PCM is bad . I originally had a trouble code that said my egr valve was closed . I replaced that egr valve and still got the same code afterwards .

Did they change the BCM or PCM? The BCM doesn't have anything to do with the gauges or transmission shifting or the PRNDL lights. The transmission range sensor is where I would start. This sends a signal to the PCM, from the PCM to the PRNDL lights. The PCM also reads other sensor for shifting. I would have to put it on a scanner to see what was going on. Three things I would definitely check are the range sensor, wires from the range sensor to the PCM and the PCM.

Not shifting out of 1st (probably 2nd gear) is called "limp home" mode designed to prevent further trans damage from a mechanical or electronic failure. While the problem could be ecm/pcm related, that is very unlikely. Getting someone other than a dealer to try to diagnose the problem is very risky. If a dealer tells you what is wrong and gives an estimate to fix it, he then owns the problem. This will likely save you grief and money in the long run.

make sure you have VSS SENSOR ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR CONNECTED, AND ITS NOT UNCONNECTED.more likely the dealership has to reprogram new transmission to the TCM PCM so transmission will shift correctly.

2002 Dodge Grand Caravan I just put a master computer on. Is there a way that I can reset it? The engine runs fine so I know it works but it wont shift properly.

Hope you put a PCM in. TCM is in side the PCM. The TCM sometimes needs a brake in period. 200 miles. If not call the dealer to have then flash the PCM with the updates. Around $80 at the dealer. Tell them you want to FLASH to PCM for bump shifting. Any Chrysler, Jeep or Dodge dealer can do this in 1 hour. Thers a Chrysler TSB #2101807 Dated 10-27-07 about Transmission Reprogramming. If the dealer put the PCM take it back tell them about the TSB

Transmission does not shift automatically, only manually. Swap in a known-good PCM, check wiring, check other sensors such as VSS and TPS.

Trans shifts into gear harshly, car feels sluggish off the line
, No 1st, 4th or TCC lockup available, Manual 2nd, 3rd and Reverse are only available gears, CEL is on: Transmision is either in limp-home mode or has lost electrical power. If there are lots of error codes in the PCM, check the underhood fuse that powers the transmission, and if it pops again, look for a short in that circuit like an O2 sensor harness touching exhaust. Otherwise, check PCM codes for a particular fault in the transmission causing the PCM to put it in limp-home mode.

Car goes into gear but feels very sluggish like the brakes are dragging, but it will roll easily (starts out in 4th gear), you manually shift to 2 to get it moving, once it's moving you put it back in OD and the car shifts 3rd to 4th on its own and locks the converter at the appropriate time: ShiftB solenoid failed: Easy fix in the pan. Or a wiring problem from PCM to trans.. or PCM.

Good luck and get back to me, hope this helps.
