You can run the sound to the home theater system in many cases. It depends on the home theater system and the TV. If the home theater system has a digital audio input, it is easy to connect most 4K TVs. Connect the 4K source to the HDMI or Displayport connector on the TV. Check whether the digital audio uses an optical cable or a coaxial cable. Make sure that the TV has the matching output and get the correct cable. Set the TV to use external speakers (under the Audio part of the setup on most TVs) and turn off the internal speakers.
Very few 4K TVs have analog audio output. If your home theater system only has HDMI and analog (RCA red/white) audio inputs, you will need a digital to analog audio converter and both digital and analog audio cables. The converter will look like this:
