I'm trying to play movies from my USB port, but when I plug it I can't .... My LG 47" TV will recognize and open the flash drive, but shows empty.

According to the owner's manual, the USB port only supports USB sticks with FAT16 or FAT32 files systems. It only support viewing of pictures in the baseline JPG format (not progressive), and MP3 audio files that are from 32-48KHz at data rates between 32-320 Kbps. There is no provision for video formats to be viewed or accessed. All USB functions must be done with the remote. The buttons on the set will not respond to the USB.

Vizio doesn't support phone connect - only USB drive (ie thumbdrive type) - With correct USB, TV will show USB as a 'Source' - and if selected will show the files on the USB, but can only open / view folders, images, and video types.

most tvs have a usb port for manufacturer updates only... these ports are not for viewing files.

Check the connection wire for any internal conductor break. Check it with a multimeter.

If the OS and video/audio format are not supported, no display/sound will be heard.

the usb on a lcd or plasma tv is a imput not a channel try the imput button untill you have it on usb

The USB ports for TVs are usually for accessing drives to play photos or videos. Unfortunately the PC will not communicate directly with the TV via USB. A device in between connecting to the TV via USB and using the other TV ports makes the PC communicate with the TV.
