How to thread singer 842 overlocker - Singer Sewing Machines

Your Singer is a sewing machine not a serger, so it does not do a true "overlock" stitch. However, you can simulate an overlock by simply stitching so the thread zig-zags over the raw edge of the fabric.

Make sure that the lower looper thread is in front of and over the upper looper thread when threading the serger; when threading for overlocking.

Wow !! a 1919 overlocker, I would be happy to take a look at the photos of the machine.......take several with the needle in the top, middle (both) and bottom positions so the full cycle can be seen and I will see what we can do for you...what a treat !

The relationships of needle to looper and looper to looper are the most critical.....in the meantime....if you can figure out how to thread it up, use 3 different colours of thread, do a test piece and adjust the tensions as required to create a firm and balanced stitch that meets at the edge neatly......if there is any corrosion on the tension plates, it will need to be polished smooth to effect consistent tension and therefore stitching.......same applies to loopers and thread guides.

Most likely is the left looper thread is trapping the needle threads.

Remove the threads and start over in this sequence....

Left looper - right looper - left needle - right needle.

If you thread the needles before the lower looper, the needle thread wrapped over the looper will be under the looper thread and will never be free to form a stitch, so the threading sequence is critical.
