Check network connection means that the device is not communicating with the local LAN. This could be due to:

  1. Cable connection to LAN interrupted
  2. Wireless connection (if used) not enabled
  3. IP address settings incorrect
  4. WLAN validation password incorrect.
Check to ensure that the network settings are correct in the configuration menu. Ensure that if you are using a wired LAN that the LAN cable is connected between the copier and the LAN outlet.

The printer won't print... it demands I try a test page... I print the test page and it STILL won't print. My ink cartridge levels are fine!

ok first thing to check is the connection. either network or usb, Go to start on your computer and bring up devices/printers and faxes. look for your copier. right click and select printer properties it will be below preferences. you should get a page come up. first option is general, select the PORTS option and check the ticked address, either the ip address or usb. if it on parralell port this can cause errors. it might have selected this if you have a usb port try swapping the usb selection. If on network cable check the IP address is correct. You can check the ip by typing it into your web browser and the web page for the copier should come up if connection good. It sounds like the connection type may be wrong if its saying off line. Good luck, hope it helps

Unable to print and make photocopies

when you try to print does it come up with any error message?

or does it get sent to the print spooler and then lost in cyberspace?

or does it get to the printer and then the printer says no?

for the error message follow what it says so if the error is no connection check that the wires are attached. if it comes up with an error code look it up on the HP website.

if it gets lost in cyberspace try reinstalling the printer with an updated driver.

and finally if it says no go to run and type services.msc and scroll down the list till you see print spooler if it says it is stopped start it and try again, if it still doesn't work try updating the firmware

Printer is offline

What type of printer are you having a problem with? Is it on and do you see any error messages on the printer? How is it connected to the computer? Do you have the driver installed? Some printers need to have the driver installed with a USB connection before moving to a network install. (For all-in-ones, the driver/software must be installed before you connect the data cable.)

If a wired connection, try new cables (fully seated) and different ports. If it is a USB connection, try a direct connection if the printer is connected to a USB hub or print server. Make sure that the cord is 6' or shorter. Check if other devices work. (I've seen a few computers loose their USB ports for no apparent reason. On desktops, try rebooting the computer and uninstalling the USB drivers and rebooting again. This is in the Device Manager for Windows machines. On a few laptops, sometimes removing the battery and the power adapter will reset the ports.)

For network connections, make sure that your network is up and that you aren't getting signal loss issues (for wireless networks). Try a wired connection to check for network loss. To check a network, I tend to check a few points with the ping command. For Windows, launch the Command prompt and ping the numerical IP location of your router. Then ping the IP location of the DNS server. Can you see the printer on your list of network places. (The format for ping is
ping 192.168.1.1 or ping www.google.com followed by enter. The returned message will be either the time for a small packet of data to go to the location and return or a connection timed out.)

If you are losing your network connection, reboot your router and broadband modem. (Try rebooting the router first.) Make sure your firewall is not blocking access to the printer.

I hope this helps. Please write back for more information with specifics for your printer.

Keep getting the error message "Printer not responding".

How are you connecting the printer to the computer? (USB, parallel, ethernet) Make sure there are no error messages/lights blinking and that the unit is on.

If you are using an USB cable, try a new cable. Also try a direct connection if you have a USB hub or print server in use. Make sure the USB ports are active (not disabled for power saving or security). Test the port with a known working device.

If you are using the parallel cable, make sure it is properly secured. Also try a new cable. Again try a direct connection instead of a print server.

If you are using an ethernet connection, again try a new cable. Check if your firewall is blocking communication with the printer. (Test this by temporarily turning off the firewall. If it starts working, make the printer a trusted part of the network. With some firewalls, you may need to unblock communication for both incoming and outgoing communication with the printer.)

I hope this helps.

My brother mfc-490cw I can't send or recieve faxes.

According to the User's Manual for the Brother MFC-490CW:
  • Poor Line Connection indicates an issue with your telephone line (Page 136). If you are sharing the fax line with any splitters or computers, try connecting the MFC-490CW directly to the phone jack and send a fax. If you are still getting a Poor Line Connection error message, call the telephone company and have a repair technician check your telephone line.

  • Out of Memory error message means the machine's memory is full (Page 138).

Try pressing Stop/Exit and wait until all current operations finish and try again.

Try clearing the data in memory. To gain extra memory space. turn off Memory Receive (See Page 48).

Try printing the faxes that are in memory (See Page 49).

  • System Busy error message wasn't in the manual, but I suspect it means there's a current operation in progress and the machine needs time to finish before moving on to another job. Just wait for the current job to finish, then try again.

Sharp MX-M350N Error CE-03--We changed ISP providers and can't get Inbound routing to an email working again. I changed smtp server in "Network Setup". The "Connection Test" passes for SMTP. We can email...

CE-03 is a communication error, obviously. Your print card and your new SMTP are not talking together. Your system is probably OK at this point, but is unable to communicate well with the new network system. Work with an IT department to resolve this.
