When the monitor is turned on after being off for a while, the screen is starts to come on, then flickers to black. Leaving the on switch "on" does not seen to make any difference, but after turning the switch on & off for a random number of times (the screen flickers on & off each time), the screen finally appears to "catch" the message, and flickers bright & dim a few times, to finally come to a fully bright screen. At this point, there is no more flickering until the monitor is turned off for a while.
The "on" button light is "on" when the screen flickers black. When the screen finally does work, there is some "crackling" noise coming from the back of the monitor.
There was been no new hardware introduced within the last year. This flickering started a few weeks ago.
I get the strong feeling that something is warming up during this flickering period and may soon no longer work.
Any ideas?
I can not solve the problem, but I can add to it..My fpd1830 screen stays black with the power button green and flashing. I replaced the inverter board with a new one and it still does the same thing!!!!!
The inverter board is not always the solution to the black screen!!!!!!!!!
My Samsung 215TW started flickering like a strobe light when I would turn it on... then after a while, the speed of the flashing would change, and eventually, it would go out. After turning the unit on/off several times, I could get it to stay on, but after a while, it would start to get odd video noise (strange colors appearing on the screen), and then it finally quit.
Once the monitor went dead, I noticed that I could still see the image on the screen, albeit very dark, so I took my desk lamp, and placed it next to the screen, and I could see that the monitor was still active, meaning that there was an actual image on the screen, it was just that the fluorescent lamp that lights the screen was not staying lit.
I got tired of waiting for Samsung's customer service (thats a story all within itself), so I took the monitor apart in search for the problem (I am an electrical engineer and electronics specialist). I saw that there were two circuit boards, one being the power supply board, and the other being the video signal board. Knowing that there was still a video signal present, I focused on the power supply board, as it contains the transformers to ramp the voltage up to the necessary voltage to light the lamps.
I instantly noticed that several of the radial electrolytic capacitors on the board were bulging and looked like they had swollen and then blown. There are 5 caps on my monitor that needed to be replaced: (1x) 47uF/50V, (2x) 820uF/25V, (2x) 330uF/25V.
The 47uF and 820uF caps are on the power supply side of the lamp power circuit, and the 330uF caps feed the control signal into the IC chips that control the ballast of the lamps themselves, one for the upper lamp, the other for the lower lamp.
Once I replaced these units, my monitor started functioning correctly, and I dont have to give Samsung my absolute most favorite monitor ever for a refurb unit that most likely will have 15 dead pixels on it (mine has ZERO).
SOMETIMES A LITTLE GREMLIN GETS INSIDE THE MONITOR AND NEEDS THE EXTRA HEAT TO ROAT HIS MARSHMALLOWS SO IF YOU LEAVE YOU MONITOR ON 24/7 THERE WILL BE NO PROBLEMS
I have the same problem with my Gateway LCD Monitor. It takes a few mintues for it to come on. This started a month or two ago and is getting worse by the day. I've been unhappy with the Gatewary computer and monitor since the day I bought it and it has been one problem after another. I will never buy another Gateway.
I have the FPD1830 monitor and experienced the problem of not having the monitor operating on start up. I have used a hair drier to heat the back of the monitor as I turn it on and off repeatedly. This works but is steadily getting harder to get it to operate. I want to replace this monitor.
What is a better LCD replacement monitor (brand, model) than the one that I have?
The problem is most likely coming from the CCFD inverter board (the power supply to the lights behind the screen). If the screen is "flashing", then there is a problem in the CCFD area of the monitor. If the problem is "flickering" (screen jumps around or is not stable), more than likely you have a LCD board issue. If either of these issues are occuring, you have two choices: Repair the monitor or replace it, in either case it could be expensive.
Well, this problem is going to only get worse. You can probably send it back to the manufacturer if you still have a warantee, but if you can't just buy a new monitor.

I have an ProView 900p 19" monitor. It is 2 years old, and has the same problem.
At first I was able to see the image for about 1 second, and then it
turned black with the green light still on. I asked a friend and he
changed tho capacitors which seemed out of the ordinary (looked
swallowed). After putting it back together, the monitor doesn't show
the image anymore, but shows a bright grey image for the same time
interval.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated...
I have the very same problem. Just began a week or so ago...I have to continue to push the "sourceset" button and after awhile it will finally come on after flickering for awhile. Does anyone have a solution to this problem yet?
I have a Samsung SyncMaster 214T Lcd monitor. I have Had it for little over 2 years and it started flickering. at first it would flicker for a bit and then fix itsself or i would have to turn it off then on seeming to fix the problem. Now if my monitor is turned off it has a hard time coming back on. I fiddled around and found out that lowering the brightness helps fix the flickering but we shall see for how long. Do I need to buy another monitor or might this be something to do whith my video card (BFG 9500 GPU x 2 512M) Cheers
My SyncMaster 214t started flickering for a few minutes during warm up a couple of months ago. The flickering gradually got worse and now the flickering is constant. I've already set the defaults for the screen resolution, set the refresh rate to 60, moved my pc to another location, adjusted the brightness and contrast, updated the driver, and changed the power source and the power cord. I don't know what else to do except get a new monitor.
My 17" Viewsonic flat screen monitor has a similar problem. At start up of the desktop computer the screen is dim for about 3 or 4 minutes. It then brightens and dims for about 1 minute and then achieves full intensity. If I try to continue to boot the computer beyond windows start up without waiting for the screen to stabilise I cannot access my wireless broadband internet connection for example. The computer and monitor are about 3 years old and the problem has only occurred within the past month.

I've got an LG 22" Flatron that flickers slightly, going slightly dimmer then brightening. Mostly seen with white background.
I have the same problem with the screen not lighting up on my Gateway monitor for 4-5 minutes. The computer is about 2 years old and this started about a month ago and is getting progressively worse. The fan on the modem is loud as well and has been loud like that since the day I bought it. That is very annoying! I will never buy another Gateway as I have had nothing but problems since the day I bought it. I had to take the monitor to a repair shop right out of the box to get it to work with the computer. The Gateway customer service department is rude and unprofessional.
