Is the tank cracked or is it leaking from the bolts that go through the bottom? If the bolts are leaking shut the water off, Should have a shut off valve behind the toilet, If not possible around your house. Mine is out by the road where the water meter guy can check it. But shut the water off and put 2 new bolts and gaskets through the toilet. Very cheap fix. under $4.00 USD

Testimonial: "Should have said ghost flushing, have replaced rubber seal and still ghosts flushes, probably need to replace overflow tower"

Normally with that its almost always just the rubber flapper deal. Is your chain long enough? so its not just draining the toilet 24/7? the chains get caught sometimes and a link is snagged

Where do I find a part number on an Eljer toilet tank?

You can purchass a whole new fixture for the same cost as just the tank I believe...
any eljer tank will fit your toilet bowl... they are pretty universal.
Does the current tank have a crack or something?you can replace the seals easilly enough if the tank is just leaking at the seal ... and the flush mechanism is also easy to replace , should that be the reson to swap out tanks too.

Kohler one piece toilet. it is leaking around the bottom of the toilet but if I put the water in the back of the tank myself, it doesn't leak

if its leaking from bottom of toilet on the floor. its the wax ring that may be bad, if it does this when flushing it is either cracked or the wax ring under toilet is bad.

Water is leaking slowing after filling up the tank and water supply is shut off. where is the leak?

In this toilet there is a flapper valve that blocks the hole for the water to transfer from the tank to thebowl. If you fill the tank and water is leaking into the bowl put your hand in the tank and apply alittle pressure to the flapper, the leak should stop. You can buy replacement parts for this toilet at Home depot or Lowes they carry universal lits that are perfect for this issue.

Slow leak from tank into bowl. We can hear tank refilling once or twice a night.

I'm contractor for the last 17 years and this is the first time I have problems with the toilet tank installation , I bought four toilets, three of them had a leaking tank I thought that the place that had bolt did not have enough pressure and I put more pressure every five minutes but the toilets kept on leaking, I took the bolts out and I put plumbing putty in the top and the bottom and installed it again but it kept on leaking then i removed the putty and i put liquid teflon on the bolts and finally the leaking stoped. My toilet only leaks when flushed. It seems to be coming from the connection at the tank. The tank is not cracked and a new hose from tank to shut off valve has been installed. The toilet is only 4 years...

If you have 2-part toilet, then tank is attached to bowl with 2 bolts.
Look inside tank and you can see bolts with rubber washers located on either side of flush valve.
The 2 bolts hold tank and bowl together and between tank and bowl is a washer called the spud washer.
So spud washer could be leaking ... or 2 bolts could be leaking.

1) If bolts are leaking, there is usually dripping all the time, and drips are visible on bottoms of bolts
If spud washer is leaking, then tank could leak only when tank is flushed.

2) First thing to try is tightening nuts on the 2 bolts. Nuts may be loose. Tighten nuts a few turns, and check if toilet still leaks.

3) To fix a spud washer, you usually need a new generic one from hardware store.
Newer tanks with 1.6 gallon flush have special sized spud washer.
geno_3245_105.jpgTank is upside down and spud washer is fit over flush valve

If you cannot find new spud washer, re-use old one and smear retorseal on it during re-assembly to make sure it seals. Rectoseal is good for many home plumbing repairs. More about that in a moment.

4) To take apart tank: Disconnect supply line to tank. Empty water out of tank. Remove nuts from bolts. Lift tank off. Wash out tank with hose. Make sure there is no sand or sediment left in bottom that might clog up flush holes located inside bowl after tank is re-assembled.

5) Remove old spud washer, and put new one on. Do a google-image search for 'spud washer' if you need more photos. New spud washer fits over flush valve. That's it. And then reassemble tank.
If you want to apply rectorseal to washer, put washer on as shown in photo above. Then smear-or-gawm rectorseal over area of washer that sits on bowl. Rectorseal will make sure there is no more leaking.

Kohler welworth enlongated 2 piece toilet with class 5 flush. I can hear the water running intermittently - tank does not appear to be leaking into the bowl or otherwise. Otherwise, the toilet appears to...

Place a few drops of food coloring in the tank of the toilet, if it is leaking you will see the color seep into the toilet bowl within a short period of time. If you see the food color in the toilet bowl you will need to replace the flapper.

When you flush, sometimes it flushes fine, and sometimes the pressure isn't there at all and you need to reflush

Make sure the flapper is holding water in tank. if it is leaking, then when you go to flush there is not enough of water to flush. to check for leaking flapper, take a pack of kool-aid and dump it into tank of toilet. dont flush toilet. let set for 10-15 mins. if the flapper is leaking, the color of kool-aid will show up in bowl. hope this helps.
