This seems to be a common problem with a lot of people. More often than not, it's because someone has installed MacKeeper or CleanMyMac, and these two applications have installed browser re-direct software.

First point of business: You don't need either of these two pieces of software. Use AppZapper to remove these applications. Now here are the steps that should get you back up and running:

  • Restart your computer holding down the Shift key. That will boot your computer into Safe Mode
  • Once it's up, open Safari... it should open fine in this mode.
  • Download a backup browser like Chrome or Firefox (Firefox also installs a bunch of junk that you may not want) for future safety.
  • Google "Adware Medic" (link below) and download the app. This is a small AppleScript that searches through your system to find the items that are causing Safari not to open.
  • Download and open the .dmg file and drag the app to your Applications folder.
  • Run the app and follow the instructions for removing the adware/browser re-direct software.
  • Restart your computer as normal.
This should bring your system back up to par...

... and stop downloading and installing things you don't need! :-) AdwareMedic

Lost Browser on Mac Book Air and all extensions.

If you have no browser of any kind, you will be hard-pressed to download one or redownload your extensions. If you have a Time Machine backup, open applications folder, activate TimeMachine then select Safari and Restore. If this isn't available I recommend you get a Time Machine backup, use it, then boot up to recovery. (Restart, hold Command-R) Reinstall your OS. This will do so without deleting personal data, and will restore Safari, or at least give you a version of Safari that can be used to download the real deal. Good Luck.

Downloading on mac A1181

Molly As it says the file needs an application to open it, what type of suffix does it have on it by this I mean does it have either .zip, .jpg, .doc, .exe or something else on the end of it. This would identify what application you need to open it. Do you know what the file is you are trying to download? If you could tell me what type of file it is I should be able to help you.

When I download song or movie meg. Was display on my IPhone 4 safari can not download this file n I can not download anther browser . So help me to solve safari problem n easy to download all file. I buy...

By default, Safari does not allow you to download files to your device, this is the same for other browsers. One solution is to jailbreak your iPhone 4, and then install Safari Download Manager from the Cydia store.
To jailbreak your iPhone:
  1. Ensure you are running firmware 4.2.1 or above (Settings>General>About)
  2. If not, then launch iTunes, click on your phone, and update the firmware.
  3. Download Greenpois0n from: http://greenpois0n.com/ (download links are on the right hand side)
  4. Extract and run the Greenpois0n.exe and follow the instruction very carefully.
  5. After your device has been jailbroken, open Cydia, and search for "Safari Download Manager"
  6. Pay the required amount and proceed with your download, it should automatically set up.
  7. Restart your phone to be safe, and you should now be able to download any file.
