Not all routers have such a button.
Follow the instructions that came with the printer to "manually" select your wireless network, and to enter the password for your network.

I am trying to hook up my canon mx472 to wireless (shaw internet) and it won't ask for the password. Therefore...no connection.

If the router/modem has WPS:

WPS Connection Method
  1. Make sure that the printer is turned on. Press & hold the [Wi-Fi] button on the top of the printer until the alarm lamp flashes once.
  2. Make sure that the lamp next to this button starts to flash blue and then go to your access point and press the [WPS] button within 2 minutes.

If your router does not have a clearly marked 'WPS' button, please use the CD with your computer to perform the standard wireless installation.

Use the arrow buttons (C) to select [Wireless LAN setup] and press the [OK] button. The printer will now automatically search for access points supporting the WPS feature. The following message will be displayed on the printer's screen "Press WPS button of the wireless router about 5 sec. and press [OK] on this printer" Press and hold the [WPS] button on your access point for approximately 5 seconds, then release. On installing the canon pixma printer it says hold down the wps button what is this button where is it located

That would apply only if your modem (router) has a WPS (WiFi Protected Setup) button on it. It is located on the modem (if applicable), not on the printer. Hope this helps.
