Inside the case back on my JR-7855 is a label with the steps to take to change the batteries. The sticker says to short the pad marked "S1" with the pad marked "+". Keep doing it quickly, then check the watch face. You got it right when the seconds start to change on the face.

You really should send it to Breitling via an authorized dealer. Breitling will be able to ensure the repair meets their standards including waterproofness.
Some of the inexpensive watches like to mimic the expensive watches and put fake dials on the face of the watch. That way you get a Breitling look alike at the price of a Timex. If there don't appear to be controls for the dials, chances are that they aren't real dials, Look closely.
