My ebac 2650e dehumidifier switches itself backwards and forwards from whatever I put it on (e.g. Auto) to Max every few seconds - anyone any ideas?

For some reason it is overheating and shutting itself off. There is a law that all electronics are supposed to have a point to where it automatically shuts off if it gets too hot from a malfunction or loose connection in the circuit board. It is to protect the consumer. You either need to take it to a tech or get rid of it. Get a new one.
