Reboot and select proper boot device

I have an EliteGroup ECS J10IL1 Notebook Computer. When the system powers up, ''reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press any key'' appears on the screen. Windows will not load. ''any key'' pushed on the keyboard, and the message only repeats itself.

Hi, ull need to check the boot device priority in ur BIOS which is accessable usualy by pressing the delete key at the start of the boot process. If everthing is correct there and yet it doesnt boot from ur hard disk, try changing it to boot from cd and check if it boots. If it does then i think either your hard disk is corrupted or your OS.

My computer says reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key

Hello
This means that your hard drive is not detected by your computer.Unplug your computer then open the cover then check if the connector of the hard disk are properly connected and the power supply on the hard disk are also properly connected. And try to feel if your hard is vibrating when you powered it on. Because if the hard disk does not vibrating it means that your hard disk have no power or not properly connected to the connectors or damage. Sometimes i experienced this problem thats all i done then it works.

I have put new hard drive in - When booted up it says - Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key.

there can be two scenarios
1. the harddrive is not installed properly
2. the harddrive is not selected as the first boot device in the BIOS of the computer.

After you install new harddrive, you will have to reinstall the Operating System in the computer as well.

Replaced hard drive and am getting a "Reboot and

Hi seqhdha,

The reason why you're receiving that meesage is the system is not detecting any bootable device on the computer or it is boot from a media that is not bootable (CD/DVD/USB). To fix this problem if you already installed the Operating System you can change boot priority setting and select the Hard Drive as the First Boot Device however, if you havent install the Operating System you need to select the CDROM as the First Boot Device and insert the Windows Installer.

Here are the steps on how to access the BIOS Page.

1. Restart the computer and while it is booting tap DELETE button.

2. On the Bios page look for the BOOT tab then set the priority to either Hard Disk or CDROM depends if you already installed the OS or not.

3. Follow the instruction on how to install the Operating System

4. Rate me if this helps so i can help others.

Thanls for using Fixya.

Did you buy the notebook with an operating system (Windows) preinstalled?

Sometimes you just get the hardware and need to install the operating systems yourself.

You will need to reinstall the operating system (windows), the computer is not recognizing the current OS.
To do this you will need to purchase OS cd.

I've read this problem due to new hardware interferences with desktop computers, all they had to do is change a few pins around on the harddrives.. since this is a laptop, and is quite difficult and dodgy to access the hardware, the only other suggestion is to reinstall windows with a recovery disk, or windows CD-ROM.

Hope this helps :)
