Try to download the bundle of software from this link. This will be in ISO format probably. Write it on a CD /DVD. You can get your answer after booting with this CD. Choose proper options so that you can sure format your 1` TB HDD. I did it, or you can connect this HDD to another HDD as slave and can format this 1TB HDD.

If this is an External Seagate, it should not need to be formated. It probably has backup software already installed. Plug it in. It should show up on your screan. You should have options to backup everything. Let it do it's thing. Double check back up results in the xp Explorer see if all the files you wanted saved are on the new drive. Probably a E F or G drive.

How to Recover Deleted Files from Seagate Hard Drive in Windows XP?

Accidently delete important filesusing Shift+Delete keys in Windows XP? Can't get valued pictures back from therecycle bin after you emptied it? How to retrieve data from 'not recognized'hard drive and reconstruct inaccessible partition?

You'reLuck!Deleting or formatting won't make the data erased permanently.Thosedeleted data are still stored in the hard drive. They're just invisible orinaccessible.Only the FAT or NTFS table is erased (the information about wherethose data were saved), but the real data are still intact there in sectors ofthe hard drive.
So long as those deleted data are not overwritten by new data, it's highlypossible to recover them. The most effective way is to rely onsome data recovery program.

Tenorshare DataRecovery is a powerful data recovery program that can easily recover lost, damaged, formatted and accidently deleted data from your laptop or computerhard disk and all kinds of USB media drives. It can recover data afterdeeply scanning your hard drive to look for lost data you accidentally deletedor formatted.
This program is equipped with four critical modules:"deleterecovery", "format recovery", "partition recovery" and"raw recovery". It can recover data after deeply scanning yourstorage device to look for lost data due to drives crash, virus corruptedpartitions, system sabotage, physical damage etc.
It supports for almost all Windows systems like Windows XP,Windows7,Vista,2000,2003,NT and common file systems (FAT12, FAT16,FAT32 and NTFS).You can get ithere: http://www.any-data-recovery.com/index.htm

It can RecoverLost Data Due to

Accidental deleting

» "Shift + Delete" without backup
» "Delete All" when deleting useless files
» Cut files instead of copying and pressing"Cancle" button
» Emptying Recycle Bin after delection
Formatting
» "Media/Drive is not formatted would you liketo format now?"
Virus infection/attack
Unexpected power off
Others
» Factory setting of device
»System reinstalling but want to retrieve the oldfiles
» Inaccessible partition or drive
» Dead hard drive
» Losing files during transferring files fromstorage device to PC/laptop
» Pulling out card while the camera is on
» Removing out storage devices not in "saferemove the drive"
» Turning off the camera during a write process

Then,howto retrieve deleted files?

Withinfour steps, you can get back your data:
1.Select deleted recovery. It will take you a few minutes to scan your storagedevice;
2. heck the deleted datayou want to recover;
3.Select a path folder for the recovered files;
4.Click "OK" to finish recovery.

Onemore tip:

If the hard drive can't be detected(means can't showup in 'My Computer' as a drive letter like C: drive),you can try this way.Putthe hard drive in a zip-lock bag and put it in the freezer for 2-3 hours. Thenwhile it's still cold plug it into the computer. If it fails, you will have to go to a recoveryoffice but let's hope not because it will cost you a lot of money and whetherthey can recover the data or not is not guarantee.

Seagate expansion 2tb

Cause:
This problem is caused by an issue with the Windows 7 Backup and Restore utility when using drives with 4K Logical sector sizes, which are found on WD 2.5 TB and larger external drives. This is different from an "Advanced Format" (AFD) drive which use 4K physical sector sizes. AFD drives should not cause this problem.

Solution:
It is still possible to use a 2.5 TB drive or larger with Windows 7 Backup and Restore, as long as you don't need to use the drive with Windows XP. Using the WD Quick Formatter tool, select the Factory Default configuration to reformat the drive.

Warning: This tool will erase all data on your drive, so take the necessary precautions.
After formatting the drive to Factory Default mode, the drive will be usable in Windows Vista and Windows 7. However, the drive will not be recognized in Windows XP. This is the only way to get Windows 7 Backup and Restore to work correctly.

I just bought a Seagate 2 TB desktop drive for Mac and PC, it works on my PC but nothing happens on the MacBook

If the Seagate hard drive has been formatted on a PC in NTFS then the MAC cannot read and write to this hard drive.
To exchange data between the PC and MAC then the Seagate hard drive needs to be formatted on a PC in FAT32 not NTFS.

External Hard Drive I/O Error

Somehow i tried to format and it was formatted. took pretty long time as 1 terabyte. i thought all is ok as the drive was accessible. Just to double check, i scanned the drive thorugh the seagate manager and it got stuck on 10% for few seconds and then said that the hard disk is faulty and should be immediately returned if under warranty. and to confirm it also gave me read errors http://www.dtidata.com/resourcecenter/2007/05/15/how-to-tell-hard-drive-physical-damage/

so i'm giving it to seagate service centre as it probably has physical faults, bad sectors. and someone told me that 1TB hard drives are not stable.

Dell Vostro 200 desktop with Windows XP is not able to handle two

Vista doesn't generally like to be installed on a hard drive that big. Well, Windows, in general doesn't.

And, from the sounds of it, you didn't install Windows on your new primary 1.5TB drive, you just copied it from the 500GB drive, which won't work.

Here's what you should to, to solve this:
1) Swap out your 1.5TB drive with the 500GB drive again.
2) Swap out your secondard 1.5TB drive, with the new one.
3) Create a partition of 120GB or less on that drive
4) Install Windows on the new partition.
5) Put the other 1.5TB drive back in, as secondary.

Once that's done, you can swap out the new 1.5TB drive with your Windows partition on it, in place of the 500GB drive.

When you boot, Windows may ask you to select which operating system you want, just select Windows Vista, and you should be good to go.

I had a similar issue a few years ago, when I tried to install Windows on a 1TB drive, and couldn't get it to work. Once I partitioned a smaller space, it worked like magic.
