You are experiencing an inverter board failure. You will need to replace or repair the inverter. The inverter drives the CCFL lamps that illuminate the screen if the lamps draw to much current or components on the board are overheating it will shut down the backlights. Some monitors have cold solder joints on the toroidal coils of the inverter that causes this problem, very typical with HP monitors, If you are handy with a solder iron you may try just re-soldering board and replacing push-pull transistors for a few more years of use. Provide make and model and I can be more specific about probable cause and solution.

first take off the speakers. you'll see the cable for the speaker. in this slot u can put a screwdriver an pulloff the silver front carefully. then you will see the screws at the top and the buttom. but its better to take off the stand before removing the front. there are 4 screws behind a cover right near the stand. without removing the stand u wont be able to remove the display/electronic

I've had a very similar issue on many Dell Monitors. Mine have been under warranty and they usually send me a new monitor, but I believe the issue lies with the power supply within the monitor.

try looking for bloated caps, check all diodes... see if its not shorted/leaking and finally check the power regulator ic if its not shorted! note: some capacitors and diodes are very tiny, you should use a lens with good amount of light...
if it does not help..... well, what the hell? try pouring some gas, then light it up! that should solve the problem, at least it turned on right? hehehehe!

Hello,
The picture board on your monitor is bad, since it goes
off after few seconds and the power led or button is on, it means the
picture
board of your monitor has developed fault.
The best thing for you
to
do now is to take the monitor to a local repairer or service center
within your vicinity
to help with the replacement of the picture board
because the fault is not something you can fix yourself, in order not to
complicate issues.
Take care.
