DVD player is black and white and screen is split

your dvd are on PAL system .try to set it into NTSC.
or you can set your monitor to PAL setting.

Try disconnecting it from the power outlet for 5 minutes and then plugging it back in again.

could be a pal/ntsc region code problem, either the menu setting is pal and your playing a ntsc region coded dvd or the menu is correctly set at ntsc and the dvd is pal that you are trying to play

I had the same problem. It turned out to be my cable that went from the dvd player to the TV. I replaced with new cable & everything worked fine again. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.

Give this a try. Using your user's manual, locate the "Configuring your recorder" section. Under this section there will be "System setup - general" subsection. Being that you are unable to see anything on your tv display you will need to use your manual as your display. Press the "SETUP" key on your remote. Once again using your manual as your display, scroll down to "Restore factory settings" and press "ENTER" As long as you are located in North or Central America and using interlaced video outputs you should have your normal display back.

Getting a new one is about all you can do in this case. A repair for this type of problem would likely cost more than the replacement.

It appears that it has something to do with Progressive Scan been turned on. Progressive Scan is a feature built in your dvd player, wich by using it, it would give you a better picture//resolution on your tv, you need to use Component or HDMI cables to hook up the dvd to your tv if you want this settings, but if you are using composite RCA cables (Red,White & Yellow) and the Progressive funtion is turned on by accident, it may give you a split screen, black & white, or no picture problems. Also if you are using Component (Blue, Green & Red) cables, if one of them is unplug, the picture can be out of colors, or no picture. Check this things, if not, write back with more details about your set up.

check settings and make sure your player is set to play NTSC AND NOT IN PAL MODE

Progressive scan is turned ON...find it in your menu and turn OFF....GJ
