LG wm2016cw washer making burnt rubber smell, does not appear to be damage to bearings/spider vane, no visible damage to rubber seal at door.
Based on google searches, I tried to see if it might be a problem with the spider or bearings, but the inner drum does not move up and down in the way that would indicate a problem there.
No visible damage to the rubber seal at the door.
No odd shaking or noises when the washer runs.
It is most likely the drum rubbing against the door boot (rubber seal). Check the seal for visible wear. As far as the fix, I am unsure, still trying to figure that out.It is most likely the drum rubbing against the door boot (rubber seal). Check the seal for visible wear. Sounds like the back bearing is at fault, open door & see if you can lift drum with 4 fingers, is there any play, the rubber smell may be the door seal, other that that top support spring may of come adrift, lift lid, or bottom shock is adrift.
Sanitary cycle uses calrod heating element inside of washer to heat water. I suspect that is where smell is coming from. If you infrequently use sanitary, and if you use fabric softener and/or liquid detergent, then a built up on the calrod unit can happen. When used, the buildup can produce odors as you describe.

It sounds as though the drum may have dropped slightly and is rubbing against the seal. This normally occurs when either the top springs have stretched slightly (visually it's not noticeable) or the bearings are worn. Hopefully it's the former, as the springs are replaceable at little cost and can be done as a DIY project. The best way to see if it is the drum, is to close the door and look through the door window. The drum should appear central to the window. There will be online guides on how to change your particular model springs, as they are all slightly different. The only other possibility is that the drive belt at the rear of the machine is wearing out, or rubbing against something.
The first thing that springs to mind is that the large rubber seal or gasket around where the door closes may be perished or damaged in some way. Obviously the door is not making a perfect seal when it's closed. If all appears to be normal, check that there is no visible gap when the door is closed, if it is even slightly out of alignment it would be enough to cause a leak.
If there is no apparent problem, you could try these links and query it with the manufacturer, the appliancejumk one explains how to replace the gasket if this proves to be the problem. I hope this helps.
The symptoms that you describe sound like the spider or support arms of your washer has failed. It the part that holds the wash drum true in the plastic tub. It's a rather difficult job to replace the spider since the washer has to be taken apart to get to the spider. Fortunately, LG does sell the spider, instead of making you buy a new spider and drum. You may need to also replace the plastic tub parts if they are too damaged to be reused. Get a few estimates before deciding whether to repair or replace.
Take a hand towel soaked in vinegar, then run it around the rubber seal around the front of the door, making sure you get all the way under. Then run a load of whites with javex or vinegar. Always leave the door ajar after you are done washing, or that mildew smell will re-appear.
The fix for me was to get a new washer. Had same issue with loud spin cycle. Tried researching while wife was continuing use of washer. Then the LE message appeared.
Took back apart and found that water had leaked and caused a boat load of damage. Bearings shot, seal leaks, drum leaks, Stator damaged. Same issue as 'jammy64' stated.
Cost to repair wasn't worth it. Going to get an Electrolux model.
Check your rubber door seal, is there any wear or bit coming off? Ours just shredded and I originally thought it was the age of rubber or buildup on the inner lip of the door seal. However after replacing (A$31.70) it and doing the first run after it started to rub again leaving rubbings near the bottom of the seal where the previous one shredded!. Looking further underneath I can see oil/liquid leaking from the two shocks/dampers (A$15.25 each) and visible hairline fractures in the plastic. These retain the drum casing in place and reduces the movement of the drum when rotating/spinning with a load. Excessive movement may cause the drum to rub or catch on the door seal producing the burning rubber smell and possibly destroying it. I think they have failed due to age and deterioration of the plastic shocks/dampers and when I went to purchase new ones they weren't the same, and I was assured that they were the correct part, maybe the manufacturer has recognised the fault and changed the shock/damper design. I will fit them this weekend.
