SOURCE: Intense white & coloured horizontal line on black background on startup

I wouldn't attempt as the capacitors on a tv store around 25000 volts this is more than enough to kill you and they keep there charge even when the tv is off. Either take it to a repair shop or put that money towards buying a new tv - Do not even attempt to open the tv. (It sounds like maybe a tube has gone or the electromagnet that makes the beam move vertically is gone.

SOURCE: White Horizontal Lines @ the top of my 32" Sharp Black Box TV

This Problem is usually caused by Leaky Capacitors in Vertical deflection circuit.
If you are handy with electronics,
Get a can of FREEZE Aerosol.
Open the Back Cover.
Put a mirror in front of TV.
Locate the Vertical Circuit.
Turn the TV on.
Spray FREEZE on top of individual Capacitor to see if it corrects the problem.
If it does, Replace that Capacitor.

NO volume on our 27k-s100

Its likely Mute or a lockout on the audio, if out see if you have the owner manual and or the remote that came with the set, the item seen on screen is a clue.

I have an old Sharp Model # 27A-S100 I have a Black Line running across the bottom of my screen from left to right 22 1/2" length and 3 1/4" in height

If this line does not go all the way across the screen then I will bet you this is an easy fix. Press the menu button on the remote control. The menu will hopefully show up over-top the black. Search your menu for the closed caption setting (usually under audio settings menu) and turn closed caption OFF. Hopefully this fixes your issue. Cheers.

I turn the tv on and after a few seconds it shuts itself back off again. At that point I can't turn it back on until I unplug it and plug it back in. However, when I turn it back on it will again turn...

Possibly the main Power Regulator is damaged!!!

Open the case, then look for anything that burned out, replace it!!!

If still won't start, you need a multimeter, soldering iron, try locate output diode on power regulator board, then measure the voltages, it has 3-4 type of voltages;
first diode it should around 115V-130 V DC.
Second diode it should around 24 V DC.
Third diode it should around 11-16 V DC.
Fourth ( if exist), check diode and should around 5 V DC.

The problems usually start on second diode, if persist, follow the circuit board.

TV will not stay on

You have done everything that a consumer can do. The problem is most likly in the horizontal section of the tv. This will be something for a repair shop to fix.

Universal remote

The bad thing is that not all universal remotes work for all functions of a tv. The thing is the factory remote. Order one at ROMOTES.COM. They sell them at a good price.

I am trying to fix a Sharp 27k-s100 television.

Can you use the remote control to change the channels? If not, it may be that to need to reprogram the remote to work with your TV. I just had the same problem. I have GE universal remote and have reprogrammed it to work with my SHARP 27k-s100 TV by following these instructions: http://www.ehow.com/how_9190_program-ge-universal.html The code that worked for my TV is 173. Other codes listed for SHARP are: 004, 006, 012, 029, 095, 111, 112, 113, 122, 171. Good luck!
