I have a kenwood kdc-x396 aftermarket car stereo that I am trying to install in my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I have the harness plugged in and everything, and I have power to my faceplate. I can switch between all of the settings and functions, but I have absolutely no sound coming from my speakers, not even the beep you are supposed to get from switching functions.

SOURCE: aftermarket stereo install

Was it working before?

I would hate to have you crack it open when maybe the ground wires arent hooked up right. Unless you have a scope go online and get the manual on wiring it to ensure you did it right.

SOURCE: Kenwood KDC-138 Operation Problem

Here's the quote from the manual regarding "dcer": "The speaker wire has a short-circuit or touches the chassis of the vehicle and then the protection function is activated. Wire or insulate the speaker cable properly and press the reset button. If the "PROTECT/DCER" code does not disappear, consult your nearest service center "

I believe the manual can be downloaded from crutchfield .com after you go to the Kenwood KDC-138 page on their website. The reset button is either on the lower left of the face or, removing the face, on the lower left of the body. Hope this helps you.

Unsightly gaps as in how?? I know the kits anymore give you, usually, diferent mounting depths and whatnot. You get alot more pieces than needed but options are always good! This I know was true with the GM/Pontiac kit I just installed for my stepfather. Looks good, doesnt protrude any, other than just the face!

This often doesn't work because the radio is monitored by the Body Control Module on the 5 volt computer network.

Disc player not working 2014 grand cherokss jeep

Replace the stereo in the Jeep.
Aftermarket or factory your choice.
There is no way to self resolve this problem...
And any junk yard stereo you buy will need an activation code. Just buy a good Pioneer or Kenwood stereo and install it. Problem solved. No more BS

Which wires do u connect from a kdc-x396 kenwood stereo to a ford taurus

I would buy the wiring harness at Wal-Mart. Don't recommend cutting wires as many new cars have other controls fed through radio connections.

What wiring harness do I need that works 1996 Toyota Tacoma

Hello shonk_patric,

You'll have to go to Kenwood or to the audio dealer where you purchased the receiver if you do not have the harness that plugs into the back of the radio.

One vehicle specific aftermarket harness for a '96 Tacoma is the Metra 70-1761 available here at Crutchfield.

Hope this helps.

Installing an aftermarket CD player.

Go to a stereo sales & installation shop, or even auto parts places usually have them now too, and get an adapter harness for your particular vehicle. They plug directly in to your existing harness, then you simply wire your new stereo to it,via directions. Few bucks now, will save hours of aggravation later,.and if you decide to sell vehicle later, and put old one back in, it's all there to plug back in, nice & clean.
