I have a separate fax line for my Canon MX310. It goes into fax mode but noting happens. I also cannot receive faxes.

We had a electric wipeout and since then I can receive or send faxes. My printer works and I can scan, but something isn't connecting to make me be able to fax. I have a separate phone number for my fax. Should I call the phone company?

The only reason to call the phone company is if you're not getting a dial tone on that line. Otherwise, have you shut down the printer and tried to reset it to factory defaults. To do that, follow the instructions below:

  • 1 Switch the Canon MX310 off using the "Power" button, then push the "Stop/Reset" button on the control panel. Hold the button down for about five seconds.
  • 2 Push the "Power" button while holding "Stop/Reset." Hold down both buttons for five seconds.
  • 3 Release "Stop/Reset" while holding down the "Power" button.
  • 4 Push "Stop/Reset" twice while continuing to hold the "Power" button. Release the "Power" button. The power light will turn green.
  • 5 Once the light is steady green, push "Stop/Reset." Wait about three seconds and push it again. Wait three more seconds and push it one final time, for a total of three times. The power light will turn orange.
  • 6 Push the "Power" button, then lift the MX310 cover open.
  • 7 Remove both ink cartridges and wait 10 seconds. Replace the cartridges and close the MX310 cover. Wait 30 seconds.
  • 8 Push the "Power" button. Wait a few seconds to allow the printer to fully power down, then switch the Canon MX310 back on using the "Power" button.
  • Good Luck Mark

SOURCE: Can't use the fax on my Canon MP 530

There are 2 ports on the rear, 1 for the incomming phone line, and one to plug in a telephone handset (passthrough) if the telephone line is plugged into the wrong port, the fax machine is unable to dial properly, So try plugging into the other port on the back, it's just next to the other port hope this helps

SOURCE: I can't send faxes on my Canon Pixma MP530 on digital phone line

They're telling you your hardward doesn't play nice with their hardware. A few suggestions:

Update your printer, and see if any improvement is found:
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=123&modelid=13371#DownloadDetailAct

If that doesn't work, see if your computer has a fax modem that itself can be updated and can support the hardware. Your multifunction printer has a scanner; you can scan in the things you want to fax, then fax from the computer if the computer can fax. This is starting to look like a Dr. Seuss book.

You can also try to learn more about what the problems are and look elsewhere. Your "digital" phone is actually voice over Internet, something VOIP. If you Google for VOIP FAX you'll find some information, like this:

SOURCE: How to receive fax by

If a phone extension is attached to your printer, and when someone is trying to send a fax to you.....just answer the phone. then on the printer press the Black button to start receiving documents in black printing or press the Color button to start receiving documents in colored printing.

If your are not using a phone, just press the Black or Color button when you hear the printer is ringing.

SOURCE: Cannot receive faxes on Canon Pixma MX870, but can send faxes

I was searching for an answer to this to make sure my new MX870 is correctly set to receive faxes. Here's one answer I came across:

First set Tel-Priority, turn off incoming ring, turn on manual/auto switch, then check how many seconds it takes for your answering machine to come on, and set it a couple of seconds after that. This should do the trick.

Stopped receiving faxes ten days ago. Can still send faxes. Senders say it just rings and rings. Calling the fax by phone confirms many rings, then fax belltones. What do you think is the problem?

go to menu option and choose the option fax and set the parameter like auto receive or manual set the ring auto answer mode after certain ring. If it is in auto receiving mode it will receive the fax after the ring which you set.

On my Canon MX310, the display says "Waiting for Report". Fax Memory is clear, but the In Use/Memory light stays on.

Try this step ... found it on Canon's website

Issue: ERROR LCD: WAITING FOR REPORT
Solution: Set [AUTO PRINT RX] to ON (MX300 / MX310)

AUTO PRINT RX When [AUTO PRINT RX] is set to [OFF], incoming received faxes will be temporarily stored to memory and transaction reports (TX, RX and Activity) remain in memory. The default setting is [ON], which means incoming received faxes and transaction reports will automatically print. The fax machine will not automatically print a received fax and will store it in memory in the following conditions.
  • Ink is low or has run out
  • The paper size and type is not set correctly
  • Paper has run out
  • The Output Tray is closed
To set AUTO PRINT to ON, please follow these steps.
  1. Press the <FAX> button to enter the Fax menu.

  2. Press the <Menu> button. [FAX SETTINGS] is displayed

  3. Press the left or right arrow button to select [RX SETTINGS] , then press <OK> two times.

  4. Press the left arrow to select [ON], then press <OK>.

Note: When AUTO PRINT RX is set ON, a sub-menu will appear to PRINT WHEN NO INK.

  5. At sub-menu PRINT WHEN NO INK, decide if you'd like the machine to continue to print incoming received faxes if ink is low.

CAUTION: When this option is set ON, the fax machine will not monitor the ink level of the ink cartridges. If ink is low or out, received faxes will print with streaks or blank. Furthermore, once the fax is printed, it will be deleted from memory.
    1. To print received faxes when ink is low or out, press the left or right arrow to select [ON] and then press <OK>.
    2. To store received faxes in memory when ink is low or out, press the left or right arrow to select [OFF] and then press <OK>.

  6. Press the <Stop/Reset> repeatedly to return to Fax standby mode.

Cannot receive fax. It goes into memory. LCD reccomends new B-CRT regarding my Canon PIXMA MX310 printer . No problem sending fax, copying or printing.

B-CRT is just asking for a new black cartridge, fax will not print until it's replaced so you don't get a partial fax that you can't get back after printing.

My canon mx310 is not accepting faxes

What do you mean by its not accepting faxes? Have you correctly set up the printer and do you have your phone line plugged into it? Some printer dont actually act as a fax machine, they tend to provide you with FAX software for your computer which automatically used the printer to simply print the document out when the software has received the fax, i would check first

Hi my canon mx310 will not fax any ideas

disconnect all equipments using the phone line (everything)
connect the fax directly to a wall jack (a working one)

Send a one page black and white text fax to 1-888-473-2963

When your fax is received by the Test Fax Service, a return fax will be generated to you within five minutes confirming that fax was received. This verifies that you can both send and receive a fax with your fax machine.

I can send faxes, but not receive them on Canon Pixma mx310

Do you have the phone you are answering with connected through the fax machine? If you have the machine set in 'tel priority' mode, the machine will not begin receiving a fax until you press 'FAX' and the 'color' or 'black' button. Alternatively, if you have your phone connected to the 'telephone' jack on the machine (next to the 'L' jack), you can press '2' and '5' on the telephone keypad to turn the machine on in fax receive mode.

Canon MX310 printer/fax

Check if you received a software disc for the fax machine portion . If not go out to canon USA web site and look up software and downloads. You should find and download the fax software, which is required to make you machine work.

We have the telephone and printer/fax on the same line and, when the printer is turned on, the fax rings when receiving a phone call. The incoming phone line is connected to the "telephone" modular jack.
