Yes you can connect your laptop to this modem through a wire and still keep the wireless.I am not sure what you are looking to do.All you have to do is connect to the modem wireless after you unplug the Ethernet cable.
"If your PC has not been connected to a broadband modem or other network device, you will need to perform the PC configuration procedure below. Remember to restart each PC when finished. If your PC has been connected to a broadband modem or other network device, continue to the “Using the Wireless Connection” section below. 1. Start your Web browser. In the Address box, enter the following: »speedstream. 2. Press Enter. The SpeedStream Simple Setup Wizard will launch. 3. When prompted, enter the Internet connection information provided by your Internet Service Provider. 4. At the end of the Setup Wizard, you will be given the option to either connect to the Internet or further configure the optional settings of the gateway. 5. If additional configuration is desired, select the icon for the service or option you wish to configure: the gateway’s firewall and security settings, User Profiles and content filtering, or home network options."
"Using the Wireless Connection By default, the SpeedStream® Gateway is configured to work seamlessly with other SpeedStream® wireless products. The default wireless interface settings are: SSID: SpeedStream Channel: 11 Mismatched wireless settings will prevent successful wireless network connections between devices, so you may need to reconfigure some wireless settings to ensure that all settings match between wireless devices if you are: a) Using another manufacturer’s wireless products b) Adding the SpeedStream® Gateway to an existing wireless network The Setup Wizard will walk you through setting up wireless settings."
Yes.Get rid of it.I have a Satellite also and do agree configuration was dodgy at first but the range in Wi-fi was not even 50 ft. as opposed the 100 ft. promised. But finally, after it shorted out my dial tone like most other 6520's I just went back to my trusty speedstream 4100.Good-luck.
um not sure, but if you have the disk that came with your router run it and fill in the wireless wizard. Also, on my 6520 the "wireless" led doesnt light up unless i have a device connected that is wireless. Your laptop may be incorrectly setup

I deal with these routers on a daily basis w/ Frontier. Likley the radio is getting hott and its starting to burn out.. Put your hand on the radio, see if its running rather hott. If it is, unplugg it for an hour. If your a frontier customer, call tech support, get it replaced!
