The Grundig Yacht Boy 205 was early 90s and could have been made anywhere. The Grundig Yacht Boy 205a was early to mid 60s and made in Germany.

Analogue receiver loses preset stations frequently.

I would guess that their could be an internal battery, like the ones in digital watches, that feeds a memory chip. There's another possibilty that the feed to the chip is a memory retention capacitor. If so look for something like this on the PC Board. They are always 5.5 volts if that helps.

Sharper image clock radio for shower

To set tuner presets:

1. Manually tune desired frequency.
2. Press MEMO button, Display will flash.
3. Manually enter memory position, 1-5.
4. Press MEMO button again.

The manual is available as a PDF file from the Grundig web site. Or, if you will e-mail me at deepblack <at>ugaalum<dot>uga<dot>edu and put "Yachtboy" in the subject, I will e-mail it to you

Page 21 of the manual (page 10 of the pdf file) should tell you what you need to know. Hope this helps :)
