My Toshiba 62hm195 DLP HDTV's HDMI ports have been losing sound intermittently. Both HDMI ports while connected to multiple devices (HDTV cable box, Panasonic Streaming Player) lose sound intermittently and must change the input on and off and sound will turn back on. We have tried new hdmi cables, new cable box from CableVision (Optimum iO HDTV Box) but still seems to happen. Mainly seems to happen during commercials. IT will not regain sound on its own, you must either turn the cable box on and off or change the input and then back to the hdmi input. Any ideas? Is this the TV hdmi port issue?

Your problem is in the streaming player. It is not keeping up and when an HDMI loses connection it will not auto find it again. To verify this take the Panasonic out of the loop and see if this fixes it. I love HDMI but it is touchy

Vizio tv says no signal on any of the hdmi ports

Unfortunately, you fried the HDMI controller. Not necessarily part of the power supply "main board." (Not sure which board is the HDMI controller in your specific TV. It's usually a separate board by itself). Easiest workaround is to use the "Component" cable connectors. The downside is you only get 720P. However, most cable/satellite and _all_ antenna signals are only 720P anyway. Most people only see 1080P when viewing Blu-Ray discs. Aside from replacing the HDMI controller, the cheapest workaround for multiple source connections is to buy an HDMI to Component Converter A/V box, which allows you to connect multiple devices to one box with one set of Component cables connecting to the TV. Then select various "sources" via the box.

When selecting the source, HDMI 2 will not highlight, Only TV. HDMI cable connected to box and to HDMI2 port on TV

You have to check the HDMI cable. In Samsung tvs the HDMI sources only highlights if the a proper HDMI sources is connected to the corresponding HDMI port of the tv. Also check by connecting any other device which have and HDMI connectivity to the HDMI 2 port.

There is a black box in front of the screen

Look under closed captions---black box is TEXT and it can come from either the set or a box if used---set or box is likely set to Text 1.

Needs a new light engine for toshiba 62hm195

A new light engine for any DLP TV ranges from $800 to $1200. I would advise not to repair. Cut your loses. Buy an extended warranty with any new TV. It will pay for itself.

Toshiba 62hm195 repair issues

This may sound obvious but did you check to make sure that your lamp access door is properly secured? The set will not power up if the door does not contact the micro switch. Also double check all of your internal wire connections. You may have inadvertently forgot to reconnect a cable or not fully seated one. I know I was guilty of both errors at one time or another while I was working on mine.

I have a sony bravia kdl-26m4000

Cable boxes have notoriously flaky HDMI outputs. I have seen No pic and no sound with their HDMI outputs as well as a host of other problems. You can try getting the cable box replaced; unfortunately I have seen multiple cable box replacements not fix the problem. The best solution is to leave the component cables connected; you're not losing hardly any resolution/picture quality by using the component instead of the HDMI. Solution #2: switch to a satellite provider. I rarely see HDMI problems with satellite boxes
