Olympus fe 340 black monitor. The pictures I take are black and the screen is black but when I go into play back or view I can see pictures that were taken previously before this problem occurred.

I have the same issue, Although My camera is a samsung N46, It was working perfectly the night before, then my friend switched it on and it came up with a black backround and pink + purple vertical lines going through it.

If the lens is stuck out, that either means impact or it got squished and messed up the lens mechanism. You can have that repaired.

There are two possibilities for said problem, one is ccd imager chip failure that will be replaced and other is jammed aperture that is inbuilt in lens mechanism and lens assembly will be replaced.
In either problem, camera needs visual check of qualified tech, local camera repair shop will help you.
