171 is Upper Thermistor, State: Open

Check the heater connector and the thermistor connector to make sure they are seated properly. If OK you probably need to replace the fuser.

Open the Unit Up, the Button on the Side opens the Printer. In the rear of the Printer you will notice the Element in the rear of the Printer.
It is usually hot. Well there is latches
as an Authorized Okidata Service Provider I believe these "TABS" should be the color of BLUE. release the tabs and the entire fuser come out just grab the handle that usually comes equipped with the fuser , it is usuallyon top just grap ir and lift it out. Install the New One and your Done.

SOURCE: I have a OKI B2500 Series. When Print Says Printer Error FuserTem

If you have not fixed this by now, I have the fix.
Turn the printer on, hit the following keys on your printer:
down arrow, *, #, ok, 1, ok
After that, hit the down arrow until you see T>Printer and then hit ok.
Next turn off the printer, count to 5, and then turn back on.
Repeat the first step, but in place of the number one, insert the number 0.
These were the steps given to me by the oki customer service and it fixed my printer. If you have problems, the number is 800-654-3282.

I have a OKI C6150 got a jam now I have a Fatal #980

Inside fixing unit are also thermoswitch and thermistor wich can burn out, but also the fixing lamp too. You must dissasemble it and by DVM test the circuits, if the circuit is opend on thermistor, that means that he is burnd out.

Our OKI C5100 is showing 171:Fatal error. What should we do?

The 171 Fatal error:

Upper Thermistor, State:Open

When an open circuit has been detected in the heat roller thermistor (low temperature)

Check the heater connector and the thermistor connector to make sure they are seated properly. If OK you probably need to replace the fuser.

Hope this helps.

Service Call: 173: Fatal Error

That is a fuser erron code. Abnormal temperature. You will need to replace the fuser. Sometimes I have sen a buildup of toner on the thermistor. If you can get to it. You can try to clean the toner off. Be careful. Very hot.
