171 is Upper Thermistor, State: Open
Check the heater connector and the thermistor connector to make sure they are seated properly. If OK you probably need to replace the fuser.

Open the Unit Up, the Button on the Side opens the Printer. In the rear of the Printer you will notice the Element in the rear of the Printer.
It is usually hot. Well there is latches
as an Authorized Okidata Service Provider I believe these "TABS" should be the color of BLUE. release the tabs and the entire fuser come out just grab the handle that usually comes equipped with the fuser , it is usuallyon top just grap ir and lift it out. Install the New One and your Done.

If you have not fixed this by now, I have the fix.
Turn the printer on, hit the following keys on your printer:
down arrow, *, #, ok, 1, ok
After that, hit the down arrow until you see T>Printer and then hit ok.
Next turn off the printer, count to 5, and then turn back on.
Repeat the first step, but in place of the number one, insert the number 0.
These were the steps given to me by the oki customer service and it fixed my printer. If you have problems, the number is 800-654-3282.

2.Press Next 4x = printer displays "System Menu"
3.Press Select 1x = printer displays "Factory Defaults"
4.Press Next 7x = printer displays "Reset Toner Life"
5.Press Select 1x = printer displays "Resetting Toner Page Count"
6.Press Ready

Both errors mean -
Abnormal temperature detected by fuser thermistor (high-temp or low temp.)
Does error reoccur?
YES -
Turn power ON again. Replace fuser unit.
