Factory restore

If your particular eMachines model didn't come with recovery media or you just misplaced the disc, you don't want to be caught without a means to restore the operating system.

It's all too easy to accidentally download a virus or experience any number of problems that make your computer unstable.

However, there is an option for restoring your computer without the original recovery disc by using the pre-installed recovery software.

Use an external memory device such as a DVD, flash drive or external hard drive to back up the data you need to save from your eMachines computer.

Any data that isn't saved to an external source will be erased when the computer is restored to factory settings.

Remove any discs that are in the optical drive and unplug the computer's peripheral devices, such as an Ethernet cable or scanner.

Do not disconnect the keyboard, mouse or monitor.

Click the Windows "Start" menu and choose "All Programs."

Navigate to "eMachines" and choose "eMachines Recovery Management." Click the "Restore" tab.

Click "Password Settings" if you have not already set a recovery password. Type a new password in the text box and click "OK." Click "Restore System to Factory Default."

Type the recovery password and click "OK." Click "Next" to wipe the eMachines computer's hard drive and begin the recovery process.

Select "Finish" and wait for the eMachines computer to restart.

Use the series of installation prompts that appear on the screen to create a new user account for your operating system, set the system date and time, and set up your internet settings.

A BIOS password reset can fix this issue. You may request HP support for a BIOS password reset. They may need to request for a system ID or the error you are getting when you enter the BIOS password.

    Emachine windows xp

First, its neither a microsoft problem nor a E-Machine problem. It definitely seems that you or someone else has accidently set a CMOS password, which you are not aware of. And this is the only reason why you are getting a 'Enter Current Password' prompt. Now, let me explain to to you what we need to do. We would need to reset the CMOS Password. There are various ways to reset the CMOS Password, which requires some advanced troubleshooting steps and cannot be dictated here. Hence I would request you to call up E-Machine again and don't mentions the exact issue to them. Just tell them that you want them to help you reset the CMOS Password. Also, just in case someone might have made changes to the BIOS settings, get you BIOS settings set to default. Again, in case they are not able to help you on this, please feel free to initiate a chat session with me from the Fixya homepage and I would love to help you on this. Good Luck
