I've got an LG 42LD450-za television that the IR sensor doesn't work on. It brings the set from sleep mode, but no further. Obviously I tried a new remote with the same results... any suggestions?

I've tried a new remote and unplugging and resetting the set

If the TV responds to the remote, then the sensor is working. Likely you have another issue related to the TV function internally. Check that you have a picture or sound and report back.

Sorry, should have made it clear, television is fully functional apart from not responding to the remote after coming out of sleep mode. It works fine with a freeview or dvd player fthrough both the scart and hdmi connections.

SOURCE: television will not turn after a 10 minute power outage

Depending on what made the power outage, your power supply might have got fried. It might be as simple as a few capacitors blowing or a little more serious. I would suggest taking it to a repair shop. A power supply replacement will run you about 200-250. If its just a few capacitors, should be around 100.

Directv remote and LG remote will not control tv, just receiver

Let's start simple first. Your TV is not responding to either remote control, but specifically if your factory original LG remote does not operate the LG TV, then the problem could be with the IR receiver in the TV itself.

Ensure nothing is blocking the IR receiver on the TV. Move anything out of the way.

Test both remotes to ensure that they are sending an infrared IR signal to the TV. Use a digital camera (such as the one on your phone) and point the remote into the camera lense and press the power/volume/channel buttons. You should see a faint flashing light in your camera viewfinder. This indicates that the remote is sending IR signal. If you don't see anything, then there is no signal. Try FRESH batteries.

If your remotes are working, and since this is an LG, look at the back of the TV by the video inputs. Look for a port called "REMOTE CONTROL IN" or similar. It looks like a 3.5mm headphone jack. This port is used for external remote control and may be dirty.

UNPLUG the TV, then use a regular 3.5mm male headphone jack to plug in and out several times. You basically want to push all the way in and all the way out several times to dislodge any dust and remove any oxidation that has built up in the port. 10-15 times should do fine.

Then plug in the TV and try your remote.

Best of luck.

Remote won't work. Tried new batteries, reprogramming, etc. Universal Remote doesn't work either. LG #42PC5DC

Hi,
To confirmed if the remote control is working fine, aim the remote control sensor(IR emitter) directly to your cellphone camera. While pressing any button key on the remote control, you can see the flash of an infrared emitted by the remote control if it is working fine.

If you've confirmed that the remote control emitted an infrared but still the tv won't communicate with it, this is an indication of faulty IR sensor board of the TV. Check if there's an obstruction from the IR receiver in front. Keep away all of it, clean the plastic window of the IR receiver with soft clean cloth.
If the symptoms still persist, you have to replace the IR sensor board. Check the actual part no. of the board before ordering.

Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!

My Technika LCD32-229 is just over 12 months old and has suddenly decided not to respond to the remote or on/off control on the TV. If I turn of the power at the mains for 30 seconds or so, it will then...

HERE'S THE ANSWER TO YOUR PROBLEM:

The possible reason why your TV doesn't respond to your remote is probably the battery of your remote. Maybe it has been used up to it's fullest capacity, so try checking it up. In case, it has been used up, try to buy a new one.

The possible reason why your TV doesn't stay on is still your remote control. Maybe you have accidentally set it to "sleep mode." When it is set into sleep mode, it turns on just for a shorter time. It cannot stay on longer.

So, here's what you've got to do. Check your remote. When the remote works already, press the sleep button remote again. I hope it works for you.

Thanks.

Lg 42ld450 is not turning on. It keeps flashing "red" in what appears to be the power saving mode. Any ideas??

The power board or power supply could be the likely cause of the problem. Have that checked out.
