Caught on fire and sparks flew out of back... What can I do? Got from HHGregg and they say there isn't any recall on THIS model, only the 32 inch. Please help.

Was eating lunch with my children and the television began to spark & smoke/flames were coming from the upper part of tv, near vents. I unplugged it & my husband smothered the top of tv with a jacket. We were going to use a fire extinguisher but it finally went out and house STILL smells of plastic and its been about an hour now. We called HHGregg where it was purchased almost 3 years ago & they told me there's nothing that they can do since there's no known recall on the 40inch. And evidently there will NEVER be a recall on this television, that may seriously cause someone their LIFE, since the business is now shut down. SO my question is what do I do from here? HHGregg is NOT willing to help or give me any insight. I don't want this to happen to anyone else's family either. Thanks.

If you did not purchase an extended warranty, or if the credit card you used to buy it doesn't extend warranty, I'm afraid you're going to be out of luck. If HH Gregg isn't backing you up , i would not buy anything from them again.

Yes, I will not ever be purchasing ANYTHING from HH Gregg ever again. I've bought many things from them in the past, so they've lost a pretty frequent customer.. I did purchase the extended warranty but it ended literally 3 months ago! But with the recall, you'd think at the very least they'd offer me a few bucks off a new television. Thank you!

Notify coby you may get a new tv.

Testimonial: "Would be nice, but Coby went out of business because there have been so many recalls on their products, so that's not an option there. From what I found online, the recall was only on the 32inch, not the 40, so I can't even receive the gift card for their recalled products. Thanks though!"

My husband's 2092 f150 spontaneously caught fire while parked. Who is responsible for contacting us about recalls? Ford? Or the used car dealership we purchased it from?

The manufacturer is always responsible to send out recall notices, however they can take a long time to get to you if you did not register with Ford that you are the new owner. It will be a hard fight if the reason it caught fire isnt covered under a recall. Plus getting a second hand vehicle, you never know whats been done to it by previous owners

Last nigh my Maytag dishwasher model # MDB7100Aww serial # 15666931YM caught fire. Luckily I heard it and was able to put the fire out before my house caught fire. Has there been a recall on this model...

Hi,

Yes, there was a product recall for your Dishwasher due to fire hazard. Please visit the following pages for further information:

https://repair.maytag.com/repair/dishwasher.jsp?siteCd=MT_EN_US

https://repair.maytag.com/repair/dish_faq.jsp?siteCd=MT_EN_US

The list includes model numbers beginning MDB7 with serial numbers ending in YM, so yours is one of the units affected.

With regard to repair / replacement / compensation, Maytag state the following:

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using these dishwashers, disconnect the electric supply by shutting off the fuse or circuit breaker controlling it and inform all users of the dishwasher about the risk of fire. Contact Maytag for either a free in-home repair, or a $75 cash back reimbursement following the purchase of a new Maytag®, Jenn-Air®, Whirlpool® or KitchenAid® dishwasher. Consumers should not return the dishwasher to the retailer where it was purchased, as retailers are not prepared to take units back.
Consumer Contact: For more information, contact Maytag Corporation at (800) 675-0535 anytime, or visit the firm's Web site at www.repair.maytag.com.

Hope this helps - I would advise phoning them on the number above to find out what your exact position is as this recall was issued in 2007. However, there should not be any time limitations on claims and this still appears to be an active recall. They have admitted the dishwashers are dangerous and thereby accepted liability.

BElectric

Our Kenmore Dishwasher caught fire.

You may want to contact Sears to see if there was a recall on your model dishwasher. There were problems with the door assemblies on some model dishwashers that were caused by the rinse agent leaking into the wire harness of the door. Over time the rinse agent would corrode the wire insulation causing the units to catch fire in some cases. The fix was a free inner door and wiring harness upgrade kit from the manufacturer. Here is a link you can refer to that may offer some assistance:

http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml07/07190.html

Although I did not see your model number listed, you may want to call the Consumer Product Safety Commission number listed at the bottom of the page and report this incident.

I hope this offers some assistance to you.

My mothers Kenmore countertop microwave oven caught on fire late one evening. She remembers nothing of the fire circumstances as she was in a burn center for six weeks. My sister had the same model...

There is a GE/Kenmore recall: http://injurylaw.reganfirm.com/2007/12/articles/defective-products/cpsc-notice-ge-ge-profile-kenmore-microwave-ovens-recalled/. I don't know if your relative's models are involved. I suggest that you file an incident report with the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Delf-cleaning oven (Frigidaire) caught fire while cleaning. Any recalls on this problem? Stove was purchased about one and a half years ago.

yorkbill,
Wecome to fixya,
Huuum at your service.

You said, your self-cleaning oven (Frigidaire) caught fire while cleaning.
Any recalls on this problem? Stove was purchased about one and a half years ago.

Please give me the model number so I may check for recalls!

If you attempted to clean the oven with drippings or heavy food on the bottom of the oven from spills,
then you can have a small fire in the oven .
But it will burn out.
The user guides all tell the reader that if you drip or spill food in the oven to first, "wipe out loose soil to reduce smoke and avoid damage!"
