My laptop hasn't bin used for quite awhile so I tried to reboot.
All that happened is it says Set Up Is Starting service but the
laptop has bin on almost 8 hours and nothing is working .
Re: It says setup is starting sv. but won't boot . What...
Unplug the power cord, remove the battery, with these removed, hold down the power button for 15 seconds. Replace the battery, plug in the power cord and try starting it up again. Hope it helps.

Probably a faulty hard drive. go into the setup screen and verify the HD setting is correct. save your settings and reboot. if this doesn't solve it, then take out battery and disconnect power, remove hard drive and reconnect. try reboot. if none of that works, then replace hard drive and reinstall OS.
Your system is trying to boot from someplace other than your hard drive (Probably a LAN).
Turn the computer off and restart it, but watch the screen for which key
it says to hit to Change the Boot Sequence or Boot Order, then hit that
key. You have to hit the key when you see the message or it will not
work and you will have to reboot and start over. Select the Hard Drive
as your boot device and see if it boots up. If so, you will have to do
this everytime you boot up, but you can make it a permanent change so
that you won't have to do this each time you boot.
To make it a permanent change, turn the laptop off, then turn it on and
watch the screen to see which key it says to hit to get into the Bios or
System Setup. Hit that key when you see the message or it will not
work and you will have to reboot and start over. Once you get into the
Bios or System Setup look for the Boot Sequence or Boot Order and go to
it and make the ddc/cd drive as your 1st and the Hard Drive as 2nd.
This is the normal boot order but you have to make sure nothing is in
the dvd/cd drive when you boot (such as a music cd or a movie dvd)
otherwise the system will try to boot from it and you will get a error
message. This also allows you to fix your computer in case it can't
boot from the hard drive for some reason. Save the changes and exit out of the Bios or System Setup and reboot.
Hi, Assuming the OS as XP. Plz follow the below steps.
Yes, you can repair your system,
1.Boot the computer using the XP CD. You may need to change the boot order in the system BIOS so the CD boots before the hard drive. Check your system documentation for steps to access the BIOS and change the boot order. 2.When you see the "Welcome To Setup" screen, you will see the options below This portion of the Setup program prepares Microsoft Windows XP to run on your computer:
To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER.
To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.
To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3. 3.Press Enter to start the Windows Setup. do not choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, pressR", (you Do Not want to load Recovery Console).I repeat, do not choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R". 4.Accept the License Agreement and Windows will search for existing Windows installations. 5.Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and press Rto start the repair. If Repair is not one of the options, END setup. After the reboot readWarning#2! 6.Setup will copy the necessary files to the hard drive and reboot. Do not press any key to boot from CD when the message appears. Setup will continue as if it were doing a clean install, but your applications and settings will remain intact.
