Have a Whirlpool dishwasher model GU1200xtks. It is at least 8 years old. The dishwasher is malfunctioning. Sometimes the panel lights does not turn on but it sounds like the motor turns on automatically when the door closes. The dishwasher doesn't go thru any wash cycle it just makes a motor noise.I hit the cancel button and the motor noise stops. I hit the cancel button again and the motor nose starts again. I hit certain buttons again and the motor noise comes on again. However the panel will start acting normal sometimes. All the bottons light up normally and the dishwasher starts running normally. But this normal is only temporary and it malfunctions again. Could it be some kind of stuck button on the keypad causing the malfunction or is the control board failing? Or is it something else?

SOURCE: Kenmore Ultra Wash Dishwasher LIghts are blinking....

I just read this for the same problem: push sanitize, then heat and dry, sanitize, heat and dry, sanitize, heat and dry, cancel, then open and close the door. It worked. The dishwasher is running correctly even as I type this.

SOURCE: Kenmore Ultra Wash Dishwasher LIghts are blinking....

I suspect for either of these units that the timer control boards are bad.

SOURCE: Frigidaire PLD4460REC Dishwasher will not start

This is very likely due to a bad main electronic control board but the only way to know for sure is to do some electrical testing with a volt/ohm meter and the wiring diagram located within the appliance. If possible use the meter and the wiring diagram to check input/output voltages looking for discrepancies between the diagram and the actual meter readings.

SOURCE: Heating element circut malfunction In Dishwasher. Wash not workin

Great job walking through the possible causes! Hey, it is time to check the heating element itself. First visually, looking for brakes and then feeling for "bubbles" on the round element rod. Also see if it moves excessivly when you wiggle.
If no problem obvious, after you disconnect the dishwasher from power, use a multimeter to check for resistance (Ohms) If none, look for broken (heavy guage) wires and replace what's broken - probably the element itself.
If the element checks out good, suspect the thermistor then the controller/PCB.
Good Luck! Please report back what you find, OK?

SOURCE: ''clean'' light flashing (whirlpool Dishwasher GU2300XTLS1 model)

I had the same problem recently and a repair person came to my home to fix the dishwasher. He said he had to reset the control panel. He did this simply by making sure the soap dispenser door inside the washer was closed, then making sure the main dishwasher door was closed and locked. Then he quickly pushed the Heated Dry button and the Hight Temp wash button alternately. He said each button needed to be pushed twice within five seconds. After he did this all the lights on the control panel came on, then turned themselves off before the washer went in to a test cycle. This simple reset fixed the whole problem. Works great so far.

8 yr old GU1200 stopped mid cycle - no apparent reason - no response to buttons - appears dead?

These dishwashers have a thermal fuse in the control panel. If it overheats for some reason (sometimes a bad connection on the fuse itself causes that)it will turn whole machine off.
  1. Disconnect power to dishwasher. Remove screws holding the control panel from the side of the inner door. Remove control panel. If it does not come off - remove all screws on the inner side of the door and separate the inner and outer door.
  2. Fuse is on the right side on top of the control board. it usually has tan or black or yellow wires to it. Disconnect wires and check fuse for continuity. if none - replace fuse. Here is your part

Hi,

If you have power going to the dishwasher, meaning the breaker, switches, wiring and fuses in the home are okay, the most common cause for your symptoms is the thermal fuse.

The thermal fuse is a small disk shaped device that is behind the control panel on the right side it is snapped on to the electronic module. The part number for your model is W10258275

Whirlpool dishwasher model number GU3600XTSY2 is flashing: The clean light is flashing! It's not the heater circuit either. It says the dishwasher is malfunctioned. Call for service to check heater...

The clean light sometimes flashes and just needs to be reset. To do so hit the keys in the following order. <Heated Dry> <Normal Wash> <Heated Dry> <Normal Wash> <Cancel>.
The dishwasher will go through a cancel cycle (drain the tub) and will then let you start it up again

Diswasher malfunction - won't start clean light flashes 7 times The clean light keeps flashing green. Can't get the washer to start. The only operation it will do, is drain when the cancel / Drain button...

This information may help in your situation. This can be a common problem on some Whirlpool manufactured dishwashers. The following link explains how you may be able to clear the blinking clean light problem:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r417123-blinking_clean_light_kenmore_whirlpool

Now, keep in mind all dish washers are not alike and have different panel options. If you do not have the same set up that I have mentioned, the tech sheet for your dishwasher will explain the touch pad functions. The tech sheet is located behind the lower toe panel under the door and lists the proper sequence of buttons to push for diagnostics and troubleshooting.

NOTE: Sometimes the tech sheet is located behind the inner door panel. You will need to remove the screws securing the inner panel to access it if this is the case. Make sure you turn off the main power breaker before doing so.

Sometimes this can be a momentary glitch in operation. However, if the problem keeps reoccuring the number of flashes is an indication of which circuit is causing your problem. Again, refer to your tech sheet to determine this.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you solve your problem.

Kenmore Elite 17483 Dishwasher Caught Fire!

Had the exact same problem (Control panel burning up, sparking, and smoking during wash cycle) last night with our Kenmore Elite DW model 665.16293400 purchased Nov. 2004. I have reported it to the CPSC and www.kitchenaidfire.com and will be contacting Sears first thing tomorrow. It is outrageous that this problem is apparently so widespread with nothing being done about it! I have no doubt my kitchen would have been in flames if I had not been sitting right here to shut off power to the D/W.

Whirlpool GU2400XTPT

I had a svc. tech come and he said I need a new "panel". Darn.
It's $133 plus labor. He said the "normal" button had shorted out,
especially since that's the wash I use all the time. It's only two years old, and I didn't buy an extended warranty. Oh well.

Whirlpool GU2548 green light flashing, nothing working

I have had the same problem with my the same dishwasher. The manual says that "the dishwasher has malfunctioned. Call service to check heater element". I called service and they are saying that replacing the heater element and possibly the electronic panel may be required. Total cost (part + labor) = $350-400!! I am very very upset with Whirlpool right now.
