Yes, electronics can be very susceptible to failing. You have two choices, one is to call the manufacturer if they are still around and ask them, and you send choice is to find a local electronic repair person to try and fix it. Just know that not all electronic repair people are the same, some are way better than others. If one turns you down, try another. Don't agree to pay if they can't fix it. The manufacturer would be the first place to go for help.

Hook up the main harness . Make sure you didn't plug one of the connections up backwards. Hooking them up backwards will cause the incline to go all the way up and the display will not come on.
Sometime this can be a over heating problem especially with the fat ps3's and if you leave it off for a while and re-locate it somewhere where it can breath it can be ok. It's also a good idea to clean your ps3 to get rid of dust build up to help with cooling. Worse case scenario this could be a lead up to the YLOD problem.
--YLOD--
LEDs at the front of the console when attempted to turn on goes green, then yellow, back to green, then beeps three times and blinks red. This then causes a PS3 to be unusable and is effectively dead.
Do what i mentioned above with cleaning and put in an open space then run a different game for atleast 45mins see how you go.
If the game runs ok put in gran turismo 5 and play again. Let me know how you get on :)
Ok there can be a quick solution to this problem if you have ever used a hdmi cable this could have caused the problem. try to do a front reset turn off the ps3 with the switch in the back then hold the front power on switch while still holding it turn on the back switch stll hold it and wait till it beeps twice on the second beep release this should sole the problem. if not reply back.
One long, two short is the POST beep code that indicates something is wrong with your display adapter (e.g. your video card).
Make sure your video card is plugged into your computer firmly. If it is an onboard card, you may need to get an external video card and plug that in to test if that is your problem.
Not sure, but the 1x active may have to do with some time of alert that you may have accidentally set in your calendar or alarm clock. Check your calendar and alarm for active alerts.
