Sparks in the el. motor of Electrolux Canister.

I took the main motor out of my Electrolux canister vacuum. The brushes that connect to the rotor of the el. motor make huge sparks. The motor runs, but it heats up really fast (perhaps because of the sparks). There is plenty of carbon left in the brushes, and the springs have a good tension. Any ideas?

Electrolux el 7020 Canister Vacuum shuts of continuously do i need to Change the Carbon Brushes

How old? If fairly new you should not need brushes, bad brushes would probably not allow the vacuum to run at all. Last time you changed filter? Sounds like the cover to the filter is not closing well enough. There's also possibility you have a clog in the wand or hose.

Eureka canister vacuum cleaner Model 6865

The 6865 has a high rpm AMTEK Lamb motor, Brushes will seldom solve the problem at this stage.
Once the sparking and burning starts the conectiion between the brush and commutator is arcing and burning. If the sparks are blue, save your time.
A good service tech will run in brushes with a seating stone and a low voltage setup to allow new brushes to seat, but this is generally best accomplished on heavy duty , lower rpm motors.
IF YOUR ARMATURE IS SCRATCHY LOOKING OR WORN LIKE AN APPLE CORE,OR THE SEGMENTS ARE NOT PARALLEL IN THE SPACING YOU WILL NEED A NEW MOTOR.

The engine makes a funny noise and the brushes make sparks.

Hi
The bearings are not replaceable. If the bearings have gone you need to replace the complete motor

Sounds like motor brushes may be going. Is the vacuum cleaner old? I suggest bringing the unit in for service to replace the motor brushes. Get a quote to see if is worthwhile to fix.
