I'd look for a defective relay or shorted triac on the control panel circuit board. Either could cause this problem.

Tappan Speedwave 1000 turns on when door is opened

Microwaves do normally 'turn on', in that the light comes on and the fan starts running. If the turntable starts turning and it is emitting microwave energy, then you need to take it for service or replace it. To me, it sounds fine.

Magic chef microwave runs backwards with door closed and no time set - works normally when time is set and door is closed - any ideas?

Probably a bad door switch or door switch mount. See help file here.

It's normal for a microwave turntable to run either direction at random. That's common in such AC motors.

Mbbs 01 thermador micro oven: timer counts down, lights go on, but no heat, no fan and turntable does not turn. is it a fuse?

Key clue is table does not move---All microwaves with a table have a lever switch that is engaged when door closes--only can get at from inside the unit----it prevents the unit from operation if door not closed.

What happens from closing door a lot is the switch with a lever arm can come loose or even if snapped into a plastic holder break out of the holder.

IF this it is not too expensive a repair.

GE Profile JE2160 - Just stopped working. Touch pad works, light goes on when door opens. When starting, timer counts down, can hear a relay click, but nothing (no fan, no turntable, no magnetron. Fuse...

Hi

If the fuse isn't the problem, check the door hooks and the door-release button. When these are broken, the door switch doesn't activate, so the oven can't work. You should check the internal door switches, the high voltage circuitry and the circuit board for this kind of problems. But for that you will need a certified technician to help you make these repairs.

My ge microwave just runs. It will not stop unless I unplug it.

First you should determine whether it's cooking when it should not be, in this case anytime it is plugged in and the door is closed or open.

Do that by putting a cup of water in a microwave-safe container into the unplugged microwave, shutting the door, then plugging it for about a minute.

Then unplug the oven and check to see if the water is warmer.

If so, you have a shorted secondary relay on your microwave''s control circuit board, and we regularly repair such control units for customers nationwide by mail for $39.95 with a one-year guarantee.

Do that test again by putting the water in, leaving the door open, and plugging the oven in for about 30 seconds or so. If you get any arcing or buzzing or flashing, unplug it.

If it is not cooking, then you need to test further.

If it just seems to be "running" with the door shut, but it is not cooking (as shown in the above tests) then note whether the oven lamp, internal cooling fan and turntable are running when the door is shut, but when you open the door, the turntable and colling fan go off.

This should mean you have a shorted main relay on the board. We can fix that, too.

Differing symptoms would indicate a bad door switch or door switch mount.

Our info file on door switches is here.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

Our Microwave keeps running unless we give it a whack!

Hi firstly to see if it is producing energy, buy some 5mm light emitting diodes from an electronics store. cut off the leads close to the plastic body.
place in microwave and put on cook for max 10 secs, if the led's light up you have microwave energy, shut off the oven as soon as they glow otherwise you end up with a mess.
If you have energy then your problem is most probably the door interlock micro switches which after time do not operate properly. let me know the results and we can go further.

Sharp Carousel Microwave Model R520-LK timer will run but carousel doesn't turn and food doesn't heat.

I also have the Sharp Carosoul oven, symptoms - fan runs, controls are fine but the turntable stopped turning and it did not heat. It was not the switches, fuse, but in fact a sagging door that misaligned with the door switches. The true cause was a warn top hinge. As a temporary fix, I adjusted the bottom hinge (3 screws underneath), straightened the door, and now it works again.

Fan runs when door is closed, but no heat.

It's probably a bad door switch or switch mount. If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info (as well as a text file which helps in diagnosing and repairing door switch problems) at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk Feel free to contact me directly if you have further questions.
