Why does laptop cursor freeze and screen turn white?

Have you ever had the inside of the laptop cleaned out?

If not this needs to be done. If it has been a longtime, this needs to be done also.

What is the model number of the Sony VAIO?
Bottom of laptop.

PERHAPS I can find a Service Manual, and/or pictorial disassembly information. Then we will see if you wish to perform this procedure.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist. (Sorry Gort!)

Sony Vaio laptop (PCG-61317L) once I start browsing the internet, the screen freezes and the mouse cursor disappears from screen. When I don't browse the internet, it sometimes does the same thing

The reason this is happening is that as you are typing; you're resting some weight on the thin plastic above the touchpad...which then makes contact and registers a 'click'; thus moving your cursor around. Or you're brushing your thumb against it when hitting the space key.

Some laptops are more susceptible to this than others. Some more modern laptops come with a button to turn the touchpad off to solve this very problem.

The only thing you can do about this is to disable the touchpad through the touchpad driver (down by the clock, usually) and use a mouse instead. Depending on how you use your laptop, this will be more or less inconvenient- if your laptop never leaves the desk; disable the touchpad and use a mouse...no problem. If you go mobile a lot, you'll have to enable and disable the touchpad all the time.

The other thing you can do is adapt your typing style so you don't put any weight on anything but the key you're pressing. This is quite difficult and uncomfortable, and is not recommended for long sessions.

My sony vaio vgn showed blue screen of death and turn it of now is starting and grinding noise freeze turn it off what is the problem pls help me

dear umbro5102

for the inspection of the ram first. open the ram cover and remove your ram, the ram rubbing the copper with fire (if you have the new ram (or ram a 100% work) is even better.
re-enter your ram and see what happens (if still no change)
open your hard disk and connect it using the external casing and then scanned with the use of effective anti-virus. when everything is complete, reinstall the hard disk and see what happens.
if it still happens you have to do repairs and inspections are more serious again.
These things usually happen because of hardware or software problems
please call again for more information

thanks and regards

Laptop Freezing Problem

To be honest this still sounds like a fan problem. The freeze will happen if the laptop overheats. Maybe you should have it repaired again by a different company.(ask for the fan to be replaced!)

Sony Vaio VGN-SZ460N Freezes during Full Recovery

Probably a memory problem even though it doesn't show up on a memory test. Enter the bios and select the option for default setup, "not the optimized setup". Also if you have more then one memory module, remove one and try the install, if you have two try using the one you removed first as the only memory module during the install process. If you have any cards plugged into the computer, remove them all before starting the install. Also all usb cables. Make the system as simple as you can for the new install.

Vaio wont start up shuts off

check two things, video (reinstall drivers) and the other may be a heat event, look in the BIOS set up in the event log.
blow dust out with compress gas especially around the heat port and exhaust fans.
