This is (unfortunately) common with DC16 --- check to see if the red lights flash when it stops -- this is the "no filter" warning shut off. I have been living with this problem for about 3 years. Fix: remove the main filter (blue flexible plastic thing) -- note the small cylindrical metal magnet near the bottom --- it is not close enough to the sensor (sensor is buried in plastic body) . Try folding some paper and wedge it behind the filter to force the magnet closer to the sensor -- this can be done but required a bit of patience.

a much easier fix is to simply place a stronger magnet on the filter where the magnet is. The magnet that comes in the unit is too weak to let the unit know the filter is in place. I bought 20 tiny but strong flat disc magnets from Restoration Hardware, but any hobby shop would have them too. It solves the problem without any extra effort!

BTW - i am contacting dyson tomorrow to let them know about this. I hope they will post the fix so owners wont attempt to change the circuit board when it is not needed.

Make sure the charger is operating. Then if it is, look at a failed battery.

Dyson hand held vacuum runs for a few seconds then shuts off?

Hi, it's Allie from Crucial Vacuum.

Other than the battery being defective, this problem may be caused by a blockage or a dirty filter. If after checking your unit for blockages it still having the same issue, you may need to wash your filter.

Ideally, washable filters should be washed after every 3-4 uses. First, remove the dust from your washable filter. As it may spread around the air, it is best to do this outside. Tap the filter gently to get rid of most of the dust. With lukewarm running water, rinse the outside surface of the filter, without using any soap. Allow the filter to air dry between 24 to 48 hours before you replace it in your vacuum. Once the filter is clean and dry, place it back into your unit and turn it on.

To minimize the waiting time for the filter to be completely dry for it to be used again, it is highly recommended to have a spare filter to use while you clean the one in your hand held vacuum.

You can purchase direct your replacement filter from Crucial Vacuum with free shipping and an exclusive 10% coupon for readers, use code: FIXYA10

Motor pulsates

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.
If your DC44 Animal makes a pulsating noise then shuts off, it's very likely there is a blockage in the floor tool, wand or bin inlet. It's easy to check for this - just follow the steps in our Support guide:

It's also a good idea to wash the filter as shown in the video below - this should be done at least once a month in normal use. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 12 hours for the filter to dry completely before replacing it.
I'm confident that following these steps shown will resolve the issue, but please get in touch if you'd like further assistance - you can reach us on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US)
